View Full Version : Are you a 'handy' person?
Janice 07-10-2006, 06:01 PM I'm not. I can replace a lightbulb. It begins and ends there. My mother, now she was handy. She could fix the washing machine if it broke down.
Can you put things together...a cabinet or something that requires assembly? Can you hang pictures on the wall, the right way? Put up curtain rods, fix a leaky faucet, put children's together toys, etc?
My husband is the handiest person I know. Just one of the things that I love about him.
bandito 07-10-2006, 06:26 PM I'm really mechcanically inclined, and you wouldn't believe the money I save doing things myself.
Fleet 07-10-2006, 06:41 PM I am handy to a certain degree. I change the oil/spark plugs/spark plug wires on my cars.
I can assemble a cabinet and children's toys.
But I can't fix the plumbing (or fix a washing machine ;) ).

Lol, my mother wasn't fixing anything inside the washing machine. She just knew how to fix a faulty hose, that sort of thing.

Same here. If we need a hot water heater, for example, my husband has the store deliver it, and installs it himself. I'm sure he's saving us hundreds. He's good with electricity too. He can build anything. I don't know how to hook up a vcr, lol.
James"Thunder"Early 07-10-2006, 07:14 PM I installed a new shower head once and have assembled a few things before.
Kazza 07-10-2006, 07:20 PM I can do things I never knew I was capable of. From hammering a nail to a wall, doing a caulk job, sewing, replacing blinds, changing lightbulbs and putting together 2 bookcases. Divorce has been great; thank you very much.
I like to think I'm a handy person. When you do labor for a living, you pick up a few things. Unfortunatly, it also means your friends are always asking you to fix stuff for them.
Courtnee 07-10-2006, 08:06 PM I'm not handy at all
swedeace 07-10-2006, 08:30 PM I'm somewhat handy. I like assembling TV carts, computer carts, and that sort of thing. When it comes to fixing something electrical, I can't do it. Not unless you count changing a lightbulb. In that case, I can change it!
Other things like fixing plumbing and door locks and things I can't do....
dawsongirl 07-10-2006, 09:41 PM Well, I can hook up electronics...paint (walls, not portraits)...I've filled holes in walls before with spackle and sanded it...hang pictures....
One time I bought a DVD cabinet. SAR. I wanted to see if I could assemble it myself. The directions confused me so much I cried. My dad had to put it together. So no to SAR furniture, appliances, etc.
Pitooey 07-11-2006, 12:29 AM I've had to become handy. :p
I had no choice but to. :p
I have put up 2 chandeliers in my home. I put up a ceiling fan. I've painted the bathrooms, the laundry room, I will soon paint the kitchen. I've learned to be an electrician. My husband is not a handy man and he takes forever to hire one so I've had to PUT ON MY PANTS and do stuff myself. Believe me I'd rather do it then wait and get ulcers. :p :p :p
cmcb06 07-11-2006, 01:45 AM I'm extremely handy, always have been. From fixing cars, to doing cementwork, patios roofing, you name it i've done it all.
Mijada 07-11-2006, 05:48 AM I'm pretty handy especially since I met my husband. I can change faucets and light fixtures and just finished laying ceramic tile and installing a new toilet in the downstairs bathroom.
