Did anyone watch the Family Law (I think that's which show it was) last night, Monday night, that Valerie Harper made an appearance in? I only caught the preview of it but the episode looked great.. and very intense. If anyone has more info let us know!! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

I heard her voice on another TV in my house and I said to myself, she sounds awfully familiar. I was watching wrestling so I missed it--Sorry. Maybe Ed watched it?

Yeah, I did watch it. Hard to believe, eh? LOL! It was a very disturbing episode, to say the least, though acted superbly. Valerie played a mom whose son (while a child) was being sentenced to death for shooting a gun at school and killing several children (a la Columbine). Very distrubing.
Valerie's character was appealing to those families, who had children killed or crippled by her son, to beg for mercy on her son's behalf, and of course no one wanted to hear it. She was slapped in the face, spat upon, sprinkled with a hose, you name it, and I can't say I blame them.
I for one believe in the death penalty and think that anyone who kills should be killed in return, but it does force you to look at the families' side of the killers, and makes you realize they're victims too. One can argue whether the death penalty is a deterrent or not for murder until the cows come home, but one thing's for sure, the current laws need serious work. It surely doesn't work now.
What I find humorous, and believe it or not this was hinted at in the episode for like a split second, is that some Christians will spout lectures against the death penalty, sayign it's wrong and against God (etc. etc.), the same people who will tell me I'm going to hell for being homosexual, and they use scriptures to justify it. But how soon they forget about "an eye for an eye" and "vengeance is mine saith the Lord". Interesting, eh?
Sorry to get heavy on this topic, but the episode definitely made me think. I for one wouldn't have supported Valerie's character. I think the guy deserved to die, plain and simple, and chances she'd feel the same way had someone else done to her son what he did to those children...
Now on to lighter topics... http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
