As we told you previously, writer-director J.J. Abrams is doing a Star Trek prequel. Now it seems he wants Matt Damon for the lead role of Captain James T. Kirk.

According to TV's theINSIDER, J.J. Is so interested that he's already gotten the approval of original Kirk William Shatner. "Shatner gave his blessing," a source to theINSIDER's Marc Malkin is quoted as saying.

The prequel, tentatively called Star Trek XI, will reportedly focus on the early years of Kirk and his future First Officer, Spock, at the Starfleet Academy. Damon's pal Ben Affleck was previously rumored for role in the film.

I know Damon looks young for his age (thirties, right?), but he's a little old to be playing a young twenty-ish Kirk.

I sent an idea to the star trek franchise once that they should bridge the gap between now and the the star trek future, the star trek series gives us bits and pieces of how we got to this future with a star fleet but does not elaborate too much on it, a series that could be called Federation could start from todays date and takes us through all of the events that lead to the creation of the united federation of planets and starfleet, and of course NASA would be changed to the united earth space probe agency, I think if they really put their writers to work they could make a hit out of this, weather it be a mini series or a regular tv series and we could see the beginnings of captain archer and pike and kirk as well, well I have not heard from them so I assume its a big NO,

Now I know this may sound like a copout (mostly because I can't think of anyone off the top of my head) but I would cast an unknown actor to play the role. Therefore you wouldn't have some star trying to do a Shatner impression.
People seem to have embraced newbie Brandon Routh as the new Man Of Steel, so I think a newcomer would be better to play James T.

But, I will play fair. I'll try to think of a few names.
