I guess at the time this show premeired, there were already 3 Sitcoms set in NYC and I guess choosing Indy was a different and new setting for a sitcom. TJL 07-05-2006, 08:34 PM I really don't think the city played such an important role on the show, compared to other sitcoms like say Seinfeld which relied heavily on situtations that were very "New York." Basically, they probably could have set One Day At A time in Indianapolis or Chicago, and it wouldn't have made a difference. I'll agree that locale wasn't as important as Seinfeld, but after seeing Ann's parents, they were "old School Italians." They seemed better suited for New York than a small town in Indiana. Years ago I wrote a sitcom pilot script that was set in a New Jersey town I am very fond of. Maybe the folks behind "One Day At A Time" have ties to Indianapolis.
