I guess at the time this show premeired, there were already 3 Sitcoms set in NYC and I guess choosing Indy was a different and new setting for a sitcom.

I see your point, but Indiana seemed so out of place don't you think?

Yes, maybe Chicago would have been better

Exactly, I think a big city would've been more appropriate.

I really don't think the city played such an important role on the show, compared to other sitcoms like say Seinfeld which relied heavily on situtations that were very "New York." Basically, they probably could have set One Day At A time in Indianapolis or Chicago, and it wouldn't have made a difference.

I'll agree that locale wasn't as important as Seinfeld, but after seeing Ann's parents, they were "old School Italians." They seemed better suited for New York than a small town in Indiana.

With all the Jewish and Italian characters around speaking in Brooklyn accents, it would've been more appropriate to set the show in NYC. Maybe even Jersey.

Who knows? Maybe one of the shows creators is from Indianapolis, so they wanted to set the show there.

Years ago I wrote a sitcom pilot script that was set in a New Jersey town I am very fond of.

Maybe the folks behind "One Day At A Time" have ties to Indianapolis.
