The firing of Star Jones is actually one of the most disgusting things I've heard of on TV. The way Barbara handled this was COMPLETELY unprofessional, malicious and overall disrespectful to the entire journalism profession and her viewers.

Not only did she lie, but she urged her co-workers to lie also, and then fired (earlier than expected) one of them after she refused to do so. This puts her in a very, very bad light.

She poked fun at Star the next day, while Star has continued to be outmost respectful, kind, and PROFESSIONAL. Star still claims to admire and hold Barbara in high esteem, even after what she has done to her.

I was never a big fan of Star, but the way she handled this incident is something to admire. By losing Star and Meredith, "The View" has lost its last ounce of credibility, and so has Barbara.

Don't even get me started on Barbara's Jane Fonda incident. :o

I totally agree, the way the whole thing was handled was very messy. And after knowing and working with someone side by side for 9 years, you would think that Barbara, Bill and ABC would have handled that in a different way. The fact that Bill lied to Star in her face way back in November, shows you what kinda of person he is. Also Barbara should have sat Star down and told her face to face that her contract wasn't going to be renewed, instead of Star's husband.

I wouldn't paint Star as sweet and innocent either. With that said, it was still messed up how they treated Star the last couple of days.

...is about as egocentric and as much of a "taskmaster" on "THE VIEW" as Arthur Godfrey was in his various radio and TV shows. Perhaps you don't remember this, but Godfrey, on advice of a CBS executive, decided to fire his popular singer Julius LaRosa on his daytime radio-TV program in October 1953...ON THE AIR.

LaRosa had decided that he wanted outside representation of his career- rather than depend on Godfrey's legal staff- and informed Arthur that, from then on, he'd have to speak to Julie's AGENT. Godfrey didn't want ANYONE in his supporting cast to have an agent, and wondered how to get LaRosa off his program(s). That's when a CBS executive reminded Godfrey that, since he practically "hired" Julius on his "TALENT SCOUTS" program after he won the competition one evening in late 1950 {'when you come out of the service, you come see me, and we'll have a job for you on my show(s)'}, Godfrey's only legal "out" was to "fire" LaRosa on the air.

And so, on October 19, 1953, after having made Julius LaRosa wait almost an hour-and-a-half for his daily "song spot" on "ARTHUR GODFREY TIME" (which was on radio every weekday from 10-11:30am[et] AND simulcast on TV, but not for the entire 90 minutes) at about 11:25am, on RADIO only, Arthur finally asked Julie to come to the microphone.

He then reminded people that LaRosa had been a regular on his radio and TV shows for two years (after having won that "TALENT SCOUTS" competition)....and that, on Arthur's show, there were no "stars" in his "family", even though Julius was currently enjoying fame as a Cadence recording star [through Arthur's conductor, Archie Bleyer, who owned the record label], and reminded Julie that, if he persevered, he was going to become "a great big name". He then asked Julius to sing "(I'll Take) Manhattan", which he did. And then, after the song and applause died down, Godfrey said-

"Thanks ever so much, Julie! That was Julie's swan song with us...{gasp from the audience} He goes now, out on his own, as his own star, soon to be seen on his own programs, and I know you'll wish him 'godspeed' as much as I do...{slight groan from audience}...this is the CBS Radio Network".

The next day, at a press conference, Godfrey explained why he had fired Julius LaRosa on the air- he again mentioned the fact that the Godfrey cast was a "family", and that Julius had "lacked humility" in going on his own as he did. Well, that backfired. LaRosa had a nice sweet personality and pleasant voice, and for the most part, Arthur's audience loved him; most older women felt a "mother instinct" for him whenever they saw or heard him perform. Most of the listening audience couldn't believe that Julius "lacked humility"....no, it appeared as though Arthur Godfrey lacked humility instead for firing him on the air!! And that was the beginning of the end for Arthur Godfrey. He fired a few more members of his "family" {Next, Archie Bleyer got the ax in private, for obvious reasons} and staff over the next two years, and the public started to tune out his radio and TV shows slowly. By 1959, he gave up his daily TV show to concentrate on radio only (and undergo chemotherapy due to a bout with cancer, which he survived)...and there was that disagreement with Allen Funt over WHO was 'controlling' "CANDID CAMERA" in 1960-'61, with Godfrey leaving the show in favor of Durward Kirby, who got along much better with Funt.....and the final radio show in April 1972.....and Godfrey's death in 1983.
