I disagree, the first one was better.

Both Vivian's were equally replaceable in my opinion. They could have drug a giant rock in to play Vivian and it would have had an equal impact on the overall show.

I think the first Vivian was funnier. But the second one was prettier.

I have to disagree with you furienna, Janet Hurbet was much prettier than Daphne Maxwell Reid. Janet was the most beautiful dark skinned woman i've ever seen. Her skin was totally flawless and she had the grace of a ballerina.

Anyway, Daphne Maxwell Reid should have never been an replacement. She couldn't act her way out of a paper bag. She was bland and her hairdos, oh my god, I hated that poof she called her hair.

I think Janet was too skinny. I would gladly give her some of my extra pounds, because we would both be better off then. And even besides that, Daphne was more beautiful. However, I have to agree with you, that Daphne was way more bland than Janet.

Daphne, who was much better on Frank's Place, sucked in comedy. It was almost like she was forced to say her lines. She sounded like she read them off the back of her hand or something.

Oh yeah, Janet was way too skinny for a 40 something year old woman.

I remember reading an article about Janet's being fired from the show. I forgot some of the details. I do know that the article stated something about her giving Will Smith the "third" finger. I liked the second Vivian a tad better. I thought that Daphne Maxwell Reid did a good job considering that she was a replacement. I loved her presence and totally bought her role as a matriarch and wife of a judge. I thought that she was a good actress.

Janet thought she was the star. She had her Esther Rolle/John Amos moments with Will Smith the actor & character. I remember reading a biography book on Will Smith years ago and someone behind the scenes said that the only people that liked him right away were Karyn Parsons and Alfonso Ribeiro. Taytiana Ali reportedly complained about Will's lack of acting talent to her manager. The book(I forgot the name of it, sorry. It came out around 1995 or 1996) also said that Benny Medina(Creator of the show and Will's manager at the time), Jeff Pollack and some producers of the show had a meeting with the cast before they began production on season 2. They felt Will was being treated unfairly by certain cast members and wanted to clear the air before filming for season 2 began. It alluded to but didn't say they were probably going to clean house. I remember being shocked at how they treated him.

What about James Avery? ^^^^. He seems like a very reasonable guy.

And I think Ali's relationship with Smith became better more towards the last 2/3 seasons. Ali was younger then Will, and Will was young at the start of Season 1 and you have so much money, you lose your mind, or you think you don't have enough. Remember start of season 5, there was a 2 part episode with Will managing Ashley's singing career, then after TFP, Will Smith did a collab or two with Ali, giving her the opportunity to show her skills and get on a track since they had overall good chemistry on the show, with her being the singer and him being the rapper.

So nobody knows the name of that book? I'd love to read it.
I find it hard to believe that Tat complained about Will's acting...she was what, like, 10 when the show started, and wasn't exactly Meryl Streep herself. They were doing comedy, for goodness sake! If that's true, it's equally interesting/laughable.
Anyway, I thought the first Vivian was hotter, but I didn't have as much of a problem with the second Viv as many did. That's a tough role to step into.
But if Janet Hubert thought she was the star of the show, she was good, but it was obviously Will. As good as the first season was, it sounds like there was just as much going on backstage!!!! If anybody finds out what that book is called, please post!!!!

Yeah, I can't believe a little kid that age would say that either. Tatiana wasn't old enough to judge other people's acting skills!

She may not have been old enough by our standards, but she had several acting gigs under her belt by the time she did Fresh Prince. She was old enough and seasoned enough to know about acting. She was 11 not 9 like her character.

Still, she had no right to say that. I hope it's not true.
