Why give it to him in the first place!? Man! That "bad man" obviously had problems. But it is a shame. Bootsy Whoosh 07-05-2001, 08:14 PM It is not like this guy is being singled out. All police officers are investigated when they fire their gun. They are not saying he is a criminal because he did so! I think that is how it should be. There isn't like an integrity test you have to pass before becoming an officer, and let's face it, some officers do let the power go to their heads. I don't give a damn if they have a badge or not, I don't want anyonegoing around willy nilly firing guns without having to face some sort of conseqeunce, be it jail time or a stack of paperwork. Max Whittaker 07-05-2001, 08:56 PM I believe the officer was in the right! I know he shot the man for good but if I were him I would have aimed to maim, not kill. I can't understand the people who aim to kill and believe the officer could have maimed the offender. And I haven't forgotten the children. They were the foundation of my statment. Now the hole family has been broken because of a few major mistakes. It shouldn't have happened. But when it did nothing could be done. Morally, I think that officer had the right to shoot him without giving him a chance to surrender. Of course, legally that sort of thing is against the law. I know you didn't say he was being singled out, but Max implied it (sort, of, at least that's what I thought. Maybe not). No one is forgetting the tragedy of what happened in that family or that man. However, there is a flaw in your reasoning above. It is not a crime for a police officer to fire his weapon, and it is not a crime for a police officer (or anyone else for that matter) to use deadly force on another individual if that individual is threatening that person's life. The police officer has stated that he was lunged at with a knife, and given the horrendous nature of this crime and the man's state of mind, he had reason to consider his own life in danger. All they are going to do is fill out some paperwork saying that this is what happened, and that the officer was justified in firing his weapon.
