VERY DUMB. Her husband is working as a part-time cab driver and pounding the streets looking for a better job after already losing out on a football contract due to his leg injury. And Thelma invites one of his friends to the house who is playing for the MIAMI DOLPHINS????? And she thought THAT would cheer him up after all the sh*T he had been through up until that point? Did Thelma also have OATMEAL in her Head?-lol

He slapped Thelma because she kept talking after he told her to shut up, and also said, "Keith, you're drunk!", making him lose it. No drunk wants to hear the words, "You're drunk!"

If she did, I guess Keith was trying to slap it out.

My favorite part is when she slaps him back.

It was not smart...however, his issues were deeper than depression. He had a drinking problem. Had he not been an "alcoholic" he would not have reacted that way. Violence towards your spouse when one is an alcoholic is one of many symptoms. I am sure he would not have been a happy camper if he was NOT DRINKING...but he would not have gone as far as being violent. He probably would have yelled or dealt with Thelma after his friend left.

Yeah she was a little irritating, but he didn't have to hit her he could have just yelled "Shut the hell up". But at the end Kieth got what he deserved.

men are pain in the asses too...doesn't mean one should be hit or slapped. Thelma could have been the biggest pain in the ass EVER...not a reason for him to hit her. Like i said, if he wasn't drunk, it wouldn't have occurred. That wasn't the Keith she married. One can never deal with or talk to a drunk...proven fact.

Florida was her mother...James got mad when Florida would "nag him to death"...now we know where Thelma got it from.

And yet she stayed with him. If it was me, he would have been gone, on the street.

Who would have been on the streets? James for throwing the chair or Keith for becoming violent?

That would have been a better alternative. A man should never, ever hit a woman. Throwing a chair isn't cool either, but you can't compare the two.

No matter how nagging Thelma was, Keith should not have laid his hands on her. His friend, JJ, and Michael should have whupped his ass with the quickness. It looked like his friend wanted to intervene, but decided not to. I like that Thelma got his ass back in the end, though.

Janice you are so right in your post.

I think the writers wanted to show how alcohol can really bring out violence in someone even though they never had shown violence before. I believe they wanted to show the "ugly" side of it. Being an alcoholic can make someone seem like they are the devil himself. I left my ex-husband (may he RIP) because of his alcoholism and the violence he inflicted upon me. It was only after our divorce did he seek help two years later and became the man I had fallen in love with years before. Alcoholism is a terrible terrible illness and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone. It inflicts not only pain on the person themselves, but those around them.

Keith would've been on the streets, I don't tolerate that behavior at all. It only take one time to hit me and your ass is gone, because if you hit me once that means that you'll do it again.
