What island was Gilligan stranded on?

...probably never know, 'shelby'. Apparently, it's somewhere in the South Pacific, but even when the castaways try to point it out on a map in "Castaway Pictures Presents", even THEY'RE not sure! I don't think even Sherwood Schwartz knew. That island is as obscure as the one Tony Nelson found himself on and rescued Jeannie from her bottle in the first episode of "I DREAM OF JEANNIE".

Wow, this question has come up about 3 times in the last week or two!

The island, of course, didn't have a name---at least not one the castaways were aware of. The natives had probably named it, but they were too busy trying to chop off peoples' heads to say. The hut area was on a big indoor sound stage which you've seen redressed in half a dozen other shows and never knew it. The lagoon area was just behind CBS' Television City and has now been turned into a parking lot. The wide shot of the island is Coconut Island just off the coast of Oahu. :)

Next person who asks this question will be told "Manhatten" ;)
