View Full Version : Final episode of Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood Brett Ferino 07-05-2001, 01:58 PM Does anyone know when the final Mr. Rogers episode will air? Max Whittaker 07-05-2001, 02:03 PM I didn't know it was ending!!! Why am I always the last one to know about these things!? Brett Ferino 07-05-2001, 02:06 PM The show is ending. Not because Fred is retiring, it's just ending so he can spend more time illustrating books and spending time on the internet... Max Whittaker 07-05-2001, 02:07 PM I've always wondered this: How old is he? Devastation26 07-05-2001, 04:28 PM Oh great! Another Classic American TV institution go bye bye Brett Ferino 07-05-2001, 04:57 PM I think he is like 72 or 73... JMPolniaczek15 07-07-2001, 03:21 PM My mom thinks that it ended a long time ago. They just show reruns now. He retired quite a while ago - he must be around 80 by now. ------------------ "You're old, you're ugly, you live with it!" - Jo ************************* "Why would you want to be popular? You have to smile and talk to peple and all that stuff!" - Jo ************************* "...you may have read the new best-selling book, 'If I Have All the Cheese I Want, Why Am I Still Unhappy?'" - Rose Nylund ************************* "Get back here, you deceitful little Sicilian gecko!" - Dorothy Zbornak ************************* "I've got PMS and I've got a gun - any questions?" - Jinny Extead theshark8777 07-07-2001, 11:36 PM No he's still been making episodes until this year. I don't know when the final episode airs or if it may have already aired. ------------------ Alex: Skippy, remember when we were little kids and I accidently ran over you with my bicycle? Skippy: Yeah Alex: I drive a car now. JT 07-09-2001, 12:51 AM I think when Bob Barker's final TPiR is aired he should team up with Fred and they could do TV projects or something. They both seem like they were best friends in Kindergarten. To theshark are you from JTS? Dude111 10-27-2022, 01:57 AM I saw the last episode........ It was strange,he didnt say it was the last show ANYTIME DURING THE SHOW!! Was the ending of it unplanned? TMC 03-21-2025, 09:57 PM What The Last Episode Of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood Was Like (https://www.looper.com/641096/what-the-last-episode-of-mister-rogers-neighborhood-was-like/) BY ELLE COLLINSOCT. 23, 2021 2:35 AM EST Multiple decades after his show went off the air, the name Mister Rogers remains synonymous with children's television. Fred Rogers had initially developed his show in Canada in 1963, where it continued for four years, until he quit and brought the show back to his home in Pittsburgh. Beginning in 1968, the Pittsburgh-produced incarnation ran daily on public television across the U.S. Other than a hiatus Rogers took in the late '70s (during which reruns kept airing), "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" ran continually until 2001 (https://www.capecodtimes.com/story/news/2000/11/12/mister-rogers-to-end/51012160007/), when a 73-year-old Fred Rogers finally hung up his cardigan (https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/2001/09/01/for-mister-rogers-a-final-day-in-the-neighborhood/6c6b6bdd-82f6-4a7e-92c0-af5493837953/). "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" was a deceptively simple show in which Fred Rogers hung out in a house that was a simple TV set, speaking directly and frankly to the children watching at home, as he sang songs and taught lessons about life. His focus was never math and reading — that was more "Sesame Street" territory — it was instead about dealing with emotions, facing life's problems, and generally being a good neighbor to those around you. He would take visitors along to neighborhood businesses, to visit friends, and on tours of factories and the like. Each episode also featured a visit to the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, a land occupied by puppets (mostly performed by Rogers himself) who would often teach the same lessons in the manner of fables. When the show ended in 2001 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mister_Rogers%27_Neighborhood_season_31), there was no big finale (https://filmboards.com/t/Mister-Rogers%27-Neighborhood/No-Mention-of-the-Last-Episode%3F-1742028/), and no "farewell special." After 33 years on the air, there was just a final episode (https://www.neighborhoodarchive.com/mrn/episodes/1765/index.html). That episode, however, was nonetheless special for those few who knew the significance of what was unfolding. Let's look back now at everything that happened that day, in the final episode of "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood." Dude111 03-21-2025, 11:39 PM Its sad he didnt respect those of us who loved him by telling us he was leaving....... What replaced his show is utter trash and a disgrace!! |
