Yeah, but I've tried anything and everything that has to do with one, and I can't think of it...

This riddle is not phrased right. There should be no blank ____gry at the end of it.
The 3rd word is "language". The real question is "There are only three words in the English language. What is the third word?". The 3rd word in the phrase "the English language" is language!

There is also "hangry" (a new word - adjective) :D
Hungry and angry, especially when the anger is induced by the hunger.

I told you this is an outdated riddle!!!!
William Safire in What's the Good Word (1982) says the question is a hoax, intended to waste the questionee's time.
He quotes David Guralnik, editor of Simon & Schuster's Webster's New World Dictionary as saying there are no other "native English words" so ending, except angry and hungry.
In 1982 there was no other word, but today ---HANGRY is now the word that can be the answer!!!!!!
Also, the phrase "The English Language" from the "riddle" is what some had decided it meant was the third word in the phrase "The English Language" -- which is "Language."
Do you understand NOW!
Dude111 12-13-2024, 02:57 PM Hmmmm I dunno if I do Foggy but I trust you...
