View Full Version : TJL's Latest Illness
Bronchitus.
Ever have it? Well, beleive you me you don't want it.
I had been feeling poorly for about a week and a half; I thought i just caught a bad cold from all the weird weather we've been having in the area lately, but when this week started, and the coughing and wheezing refused to stop, I knew regular over the counter meds weren't going to cut it anymore.
I finally dragged myself to the doctor yesterday and after a few tests, I was told bronchitus had settled in for a visit. Now I have some antibiotics and an inhaler in case the coughing gets too harsh. I also have to take mucinex, (the medicine featured on those gross commercials with the obnoxious animated ball of snot - yeesh) which seems to be working very well.
On the plus side, i think I've lost a few pounds because I haven't had much of an appetite for several days, and i now know more about mucus that I ever did before. Who says you're too old to learn new things?
;)
Courtnee 06-23-2006, 04:18 PM Aw, sorry to hear that TJL. =/

gilligan fanatic 06-23-2006, 04:20 PM I have never had it myself, but my mom did and I could see how bad and in how much pain she was in. Hope you get better real soon.
Thanks folks. The new meds I'm taking have helped. I feel a lot better than I did two days ago.
The other side effect is with all the coughing, I lost my voice for a few days. It's really hard to talk to someone on the phone when you can only speak in a whisper. If you try to speak normally, the coughing starts.
But, my voice is coming back, because the harsh dry coughing is subsiding. I still speak in a rasp though. I sound like Harvey Firestien.

Brian Damage 06-24-2006, 12:14 AM Feel Better TJL, that is a horrible feeling when you can't stop coughing. I'd say it was from all the smokey bars you go to, but they outlawed that. ;)
Janice 06-24-2006, 12:24 PM Sorry to hear this. Do you know if you have acute or chronic bronchitis? I hope it's acute as that's a one time sickness. Chronic bronchitis flares up all the time. My sister had that, and it was awful.
I hope you're feeling better soon. :)
Sharop 06-24-2006, 12:58 PM I hope you get better soon, TJL. It sounds horrible.
Update:
I'm back in my apartment in New York City now. I had been staying at the parents house since thursday, which is nicer than going to a hospital - the food is better and the selection of cable channels kick ass.
Now I'm going to sit still for the rest of the weekend and try to get better. I'll probably stay home on Monday, since I still have to take antibiotics until Monday, and they do make things a bit "blurry" so I really can't risk driving or operating dangerous tools.
Thanks for all the kind thoughts folks. If anyone needs me, I'll be in bed watching Team USA not play in the World Cup.
;)
Pitooey 06-24-2006, 06:17 PM TJL....... I have a son who gets bronchitis alot. It's not a one time thing for him.
He gets sooooooooooooo sick. The medicine the hospital gives really works. My son also gets asthma. He's had it as a young child. He has also been hospitalized because of it.
I'm glad you're doing better and I hope you stay out of that drinking spot where all those people might be smoking around you. ;)
Drink plenty of fluids........
You know...;) the good ones like juice and water........
Cactus Jack 06-24-2006, 06:51 PM Hope ya get better :D

Actually, because I've been sick, I haven't had a beer in almost two weeks. Yeah, you probably don't believe me, but it's true.
Thanks to the smoking ban, there hasn't been any smoking in NYC bars in over two years. A good way to stay healthy while drinking. IMO.

I feel for you!! I have bronchitis too. Went to the doctor and I also have a double ear infection. UGH!! I have to be especially careful because I have asthma and I could end up in the hospital. So, I have to make sure I take my regular asthma medicine and my antibiotics. I also have an inhaler for the mucus! LOL!! I hate being sick, I would much rather have a head cold than a chest cold. UGH!!
