ok on numerous occasions at work i have nothing to do, very bored, and today i there was absolutley no work to do in the morning, i went out to lunch, came back and found my boss and the rest of the other co workers went down the pub........for at least 2 hours!....so seeing as though i had nothing to do, bored out my brains, i left

on the train on the way home i get my boss calling me, i didnt ring back, then he called again and left a voice message saying "just calling you to ask you where you are as theres a few things that need to be done"???

i know for a fact theres nothing that needs to be done, he didnt talk to me all morning, didnt give me any work to do and now supposedly theres things....
so i text him back saying "sorry i just heard my nan died (lie, yes i know not very original) and didnt think you were coming back to work from lunch" (..... i used that excuse because next thursday i have a job interview, and i can carry on the lie and say i need thursday off coz its the funeral......)

I was not in the wrong here was i? Whats the point in me hangin about being bored, i do all my work ontime and very well when theres stuff to be done so he has no complaints there

You don't leave your job early without permission. Imagine if everyone just up and left because "there is nothing to do"? Your boss is your boss...you should have CALLED HIM and asked if it was alright to leave early, this would have given him notice and also, an opportunity for him to tell you what, if anything, needed to be done. You claim there was no work. Maybe he had work for you. If he didn't, then by you calling him or mentioning it to him when you seen him in the morning would have given him the hint that you had no work.

na, not really. Albeit, your boss shouldn't have gone out drinking for 2 hours on company time, but that doesn't give you the right to just leave.

I gotta agree with Irene and MsOrange. Big no-no leaving work without permission.

Irresponsible and saying someone died is even worse on your part.
