When JJ was all depressed because he lost his job and his girlfriend dumped him, Keith told JJ, "Well, you are tall, dark and Han...well, you are tall and dark." That was a diss coming from from somebody who had no business saying that. He did it right in front of Florida. She should have thrown his ass out or make him apologize.

It was rude. Especially coming from some guy who had been in the family for what? two weeks? I think Florida didn't want to rock the boat, but surely she should have said something like "Keith, come on now, JJ is feeling terrible and that kind of talk is not necessary and not true."

However, notice how Keith picked up right away how to pick on JJ, Bookman, and anyone else? He sure learned how to do that from the Evans. Even Penny did it. Sooo, what kind of example was the family itself setting? DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO? i guess that's why Florida didn't say anything. The most Florida would ever say to Michael when he would pick on JJ was "Michael..." and then show that serious face. Same thing with "Thelma...".

She really should have thrown him out when he said in front of her-"Well I guess you can't get the house because it's no way we are parting with our savings"

What an idiot he was. Men!!!!! they say things the wrong way. It wasn't what he said, it was how he said it. If he had to say anything, it should have been "Thelma, I was hoping with our savings that we could get our own place." in a nice tone of voice of course. The way he said it sounded rude, crude and controlling. On the other hand, Thelma should know when you marry, you have someone else to consider. You can't just make choices or decide big things like that without talking it over with your spouse. Imagine if Keith had done that without consulting with Thelma? She would have been pissed.

I don't think it was nothing with what he said, it was where he said it, IN FRONT OF FLORIDA-lol

Still, even if he said this to Thelma in private, it was rude and crude. One should be able to say things to their spouse in a way that isn't crude...it should be said in the best way as possible so as not to hurt, cause anger, etc. If my man said those exact words to me like Keith did, I would be pissed. I would start arguing with him. Now, had he come to me in private and said, "Babe, let me talk with you abt something. I love the idea of getting outta here as much as you do...but my feelings are that we save our money so we can have our own place, build our own dreams, etc. can you see where I am coming from?" Now doesn't that sound better than what Keith said?

Exactly. I did say that in the other post if you LOOKED CLOSELY AT IT. i stated that spouses should talk with each other FIRST abt big decisions. She should have talked to him abt in in private FIRST. get it. got it. good.

If it weren't for J.J., I would of easily have nominated Keith as the least favorite person on this show.

I also hated that ep. where he got totally depressed and totally drunk to the point where he hits Thelma!

Oh man, when that episode showed the first time ever, it was a shocking thing to see. Very Norman Lear. Although it is a harsh scene, I love this episode.

He meant it as a joke and Florida knew it and didn't take it seriouly and JJ didn't take it seriously either. It's not like they didn't kid around like that all the time in that house. And by that time, he had known JJ I know for at least 2 months.

I think it was inappropriate, considering the circumstances. Florida een had to tell JJ that Keith really didn't mean that.

JJ wasn't ill, it wasn't life threatening. He was dumped by a woman he hardly saw and who was a gold digger.

As much as JJ turned serious situations into bafoonary? Remember the episode when the family learns that one of it's good friends has been reduced to eating dog food. JJ keeps joking about it even as the Family is visibly heartbroken upon learning the news. And what about when James' buddy has a gambling problem, and those two hoodlems show up James makes JJ promise not to say anything to the family. That very next morning JJ does exactly what James told him not to do. So if JJ got a taste of his own medicine, good for him.

She should have said "Keith, get the hell out of my house!", like the way she told JJ to get out when he became a number runner.

WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, HOLD ONE THERE, Wasn't it you Solomon who said that it was wrong for Thelma to NOT talk to Keith first abt even going in on the deal with "their" money???? and didn't you agree before with Keith for standing up for himself regarding "parting with our savings"?

Yeah, I said it was nothing wrong with Keith being upset but he shouldn't have shown his feelings in front of Florida

Florida was out of town at the time, so she wasn't even there when the whole slap thing happened, and by the time she would have gotten home the whole incident would have been over and done with. I'm pretty sure that Keith apologized to Michael and JJ. And I'm also sure that if Florida would've put Keith out, Thelma would have gone with him and then her precious little baby girl would have been out on the mean streets of Chicago, So Florida putting Keith out on the streets wasn't going to happen.

Ok, gotcha Solomon. My mistake, I remember that now.

Brie, I am confused. No one said that Florida would have kicked Keith out for slapping Thelma. They are referring to Florida kicking Keith out for getting an attitude abt sharing his savings with the family for the house Florida wanted.

Oops sorry got my thread mixed up. I still go with my theory that Flo wouldn't have kicked Keith out becasue Thelma would have went along with him.

My family is just like the Evans/Anderson gang when it comes to teasing. My brother-in-law (sister's hubby) always calls me a goalpost, toothpick, etc. My mom also sometimes gives him that LOOK just like Flo did when someone was out of line. It's little moments like that when Good Times mirrors my own life.
