Fans of Good Times say that Thelma fell in love too often...... I don't think she fell in love THAT much.

Look at the guys she has loved. I'm sure about 80% of us have had more loves than she has.
1.Eddie(Sex And The Evans Family)
2.Larry(Her boyfriend who wanted her to move to California with him and marry him)
3.Donald(The older man she was engaged too)
4.Lloyd(The polygamist)
5.Ibe(The African man she was engaged too)
6.Keith(The man she married)
7.Maxwell(Her boyfriend in Thelma Moves Out, I don't know his actual name though)
8.9.10. Bob. Bill. Marty.(The boys who called her on her phone in some episodes(I don't know their actual names either.)

11.Mark

13.Smith
14.Jackson

There, four more potential boyfriends(I do not know their actual names either).........................

All I can say about that is this:
WOW, what a "busy girl" and quite the busybody! LOL... :talk:
Too fast for my blood!
It's all good, though...Thelma's cool stuff, no matter!

It's good to date around when your young, you don't have to sleep with the men. And the fact that she was engaged 3 times and didn't have sex with any of the men, the girl had game

She did have game, but 3 times is two too many. lol

Yeah, when you fall in love, it's supposed to be FOR REAL, not a game of he loves me, he loves me not. When one falls in love, you accept them and are ready to make compromises. Apparently Thelma wasn't really in love with Larry or she would have gone with him. Ibe, that was stupid. You are supposed to ask questions and know the person before you accept their proposal. Keith, she only knew him for A MONTH. Damn!!!!!!!

She was engaged four times.........
She was engaged 3 times. she was never engaged to Keith. she married him less than a week after he proposed. Donald was a so-so engagement. I don't even really count it as one, but technically for argument's sake, Donald was the first, Larry the second and Ibe the third.

BTW, just because she had a lot of boyfriends doesn't mean she loved them. Eddie from the sex book episode was a boyfriend, no love was intended or stated. So was Maxwell, just a boyfriend.

Even though she married him less than a week after he proposed, wouldn't that mean there were at least 6 days she was engaged to him?(you said less than a week). Hee hee.........;)

If that was the case she would have divorced him with in a few months. She stuck it out through thick and thin.

I guess this fits in here. What do you think James would have thought of Keith? He did not like Larry for sure.

I think Thelma was engaged to Keith, even if it was for only a week.

Can this be the new debate that goes on for years? We need a new one, since the spin-off debate was settled. :D

Well, I am assuming since he never gave her a ring, he only proposed and the wedding was "this Saturday" that didn't make them officially engaged. She may have called him my fiancee, but she always referred to him as Keith for the short time before they got married. I get the feeling that it was a Saturday or Sunday that he proposed. More Sunday, cuz if it was Friday or earlier, Keith would have said, "we got to get married NEXT Saturday." Anyhow, I guess it would be a very very short engagement, but there are people who go straight from boyfriend/girlfriend relationship to marriage.

The minute Keith asked Thelma to marry him, they were engaged, ring or not. Suppose they ran into someone that week, she would have introduced Keith as her fiancee.

Websters http://webster.com/dictionary/engaged

3 : to bind (as oneself) to do something; especially : to bind by a pledge to marry

NEW DEBATE! ;)

She would have said, "THIS IS KEITH ANDERSON, he was up for the Heismann Trophy and he is going to sign a million dollar contract...oh by the way, we are getting married this Saturday."

Thelma had game??? (give me a break) even though (she did have a lot of boyfriends) let face it, most of them were...FUGLY!!! (eww, what was our girl thinking)...*probably, the reason* why she married Keith (was handsome) after a week of knowing him!

Thelma only had 3 ugly men in her little group of boyfriends, So most of them weren't ungly. And YES the girl had game.

Who wouldn't have?
my point is she wouldn't call him HER FIANCE...she would say all those other things before calling him that. Her mind was: HUSBAND HUSBAND HUSBAND.

Brieannas21

Thelma was both beautiful and intelligent; and majority of her boyfriends here not up to par, you would think of someone like her would have a better caliber of boyfriend?, I am wrong?

I think Larry was a great match for Thelma but she didn't go that route. I also think that Kieth was a great match for her too, he was educated and he did end up getting job and then off to get a contract to play ball. Now the others I don't think they suited her very well. Ibe was smart but his looks made him lose points, The old guy( can't remember his name) was just old.

I don't know, they should have been engaged a little bit longer.

She thought she landed herself a millionaire football player (who was also handsome); so do you blame her for immediately referring Keith as her "husband"?
exactly my point. I couldn't see her calling him her fiance for five days. I could see her saying, "We are getting married this Saturday." plus the other stuff...LOL

Anything was good to her, since I'm taking it that he was her first. The girl was just glad to be getting some:lol:

And, it was (about) time, too!!!. Thelma acted (sexually) frustrated through out the first five seasons of Good Times..reasons for her bitchy attitude towards her brother(s)...

And lets face it, Kieth looked like he could work things out very well.

She would have said, "THIS IS KEITH ANDERSON, he was up for the Heismann Trophy and he is going to sign a million dollar contract...oh by the way, we are getting married this Saturday."Or...this is my my fiancee, Keith Anderson....etc, etc, etc.

First you claimed no ring means no engagement. Now because we didn't hear her refer to him as her fiancee, it means they weren't engaged?

If you read the definition of engagement, you'll see it has nothing to do with rings, length of engagement, or how a person introduces their fiancee. Thelma and Keith were engaged for very brief time, but they were engaged.

Don't make me hunt down a video of Norman Lear to back me up.

What I am saying, is what Thelma may have stated abt their status for those five days. I know way before I ever got married, I referred to my boyfriend as my husband. When we were "engaged" I quickly began calling him my husband. and he called me his wife. I know a lot of others do that or have done that. When people said, "I didn't know you got married." I quickly said, "Not yet, in six months" or whatever came outta my mouth. Some people didn't even notice or seem to care what I referred him as.

I am trying to think what Thelma would have done in that circumstance. And, if you read one of my other posts, you will see that I stated, "for arguments sake, I will say she was engaged, even though it was less than a week..." But! I also stated I doubt she would refer to him as her fiancee when she is going to be calling him HUSBAND shortly. Why get into the habit of calling someone a FIANCE when he will be your husband? That is the reason I did it, I didn't want to go around saying FIANCE.

That's the only thing I was debating. The other stuff doesn't interest me. I was simply responding to your original claim that Thelma and Keith were not engaged.

You agree. There is no debate here. Darn, I was just about to post a poll.
