View Full Version : FYI. If you are looking for old news broadcasts...
T-Greg 06-20-2006, 01:58 PM Vanderbilt University (Harvard of the South--at least that's what Vandy students say) has an extensive collection. Duplication prices make Quincy's prices look cheap! However, there is lots of work that goes into doing these. So, if you ever HAVE to have something, this is good to know. If you know a Vandy student, they can get it cheaper:

What were you looking for ?
Philadelphia's Channel 11 - 6 o'clock local newscast from June 11th 1986 about the old lady who lived in a shoe, who's cat was rescued from a tree? with original commercials, of course?
yeah I know, bummer they didn't have that one.
Lamont 06-20-2006, 03:08 PM sometimes I think TvResearcher just looks for the most unheard of and obscure things to post that he is seeking, just to show us how knowledgable he is?
ha ha
lazygrae 06-20-2006, 03:11 PM Classic Joker, absolutely classic. I seldom laugh out loud at posts, but that was a good one.

Actually I'm looking for a local abc news from philadelphia during the year of 1983 with a certain weatherman who was killed. The reason i'm looking for newscasts with him in the early 80's because I was told he was the chris berman of weather reports

Even if that was in Philly, my target year is 1979-82-lol
HollowCrow 06-20-2006, 05:45 PM They had some great stuff from CBS but not at $37 each for a 3 min. news clip!
debwalsh 06-20-2006, 07:41 PM Actually, there is a Philadelphia news item I'd pretty much kill for - back in the mid-'80s, the Reading Railroad was on strike, and my dad - who passed away 10 years ago - was the union rep and he was interviewed a couple of times on the local news stations. No one in the family recorded it, and so I never got to see it. Unfortunately, I don't know the dates or even which channels any more, so I don't even bother to put it on my want list, since it would be impossible to identify.

I only found one WPVI News from the mid 80's. It featured a young Rob Jennings. Also did you Jim Gardner's real name is James Goldman?

$37 for 3 minutes!?!?!?
EVEN quincy would blush at that!!!!
debwalsh 06-21-2006, 12:43 AM Hey, for a clip of my Dad on those news shows, $37 would be cheap ... it's all in the eye of the beholder.
TVResearcher, you're looking for stuff on Jim O'Brien? Oh my, he was a heartbreaker. So much fun to watch, always pleasant, knew his stuff. I like his daughter's (Peri Gilpin) work, although I could never get into Frasier.
Seems like Philly weathermen have been producing the next generation of Hollywood - Dave Roberts' son is David Boreanaz.
I've recorded a few things over the years, mostly someone's last night on the air kind of stuff. We had some great commentators in the Boston area when I lived there. Chuck Kramer. Sigh. What a brilliant wit, I couldn't believe when he retired.
I remember meeting Jessica Savitch when I was in college and she was still a local anchor in Philly, and the thing that impressed me most about her was that she was really, really short, and she wore really, really bad makeup. Amazing when you consider she had such presence and beauty on screen. I remember hearing that she swore like a longshoreman off-screen, though.

There was a news trader looking for a Jessica Savitch meltdown on air in 1983 while doing a News Update for NBC. Have u ever heard of that?
savageamusement 06-21-2006, 01:59 AM For the record, my mother was "interviewed"
in 1985, on her opinion of the schools in our area.
Basically she was outside at the time they were doing a story-
and they came over and asked her opinion as a "mother" in the neighborhood.
2 years ago, LOOOOOOONG after this, obviously-
I contacted the station- and they were able to send me a copy of the clip- on a studio tape- which I had to have converted-
Which cost 28.00
BUT to get it, onyl cost me shipping and their studio tape.
This was a PBS station baybe they are different, but you CAN get things from just contacting the source.
In example, I know of people who went and got the original Johnny Carson promo stuff just for asking.
So when all else fails go to the source.
HollowCrow 06-21-2006, 10:03 AM The otheoblem I have wit this site is they are a loan. You have to return the tapes once you are finnished.
I waslooking for CBS covrage of Richard Schlesinger interviewing Nelson Mandela after is release from prison also coverage of th AIDS epidemic from 1985.

the news footage being a loan would be cool if it was the entire broadcast because u could just dub it

You can get entire broadcasts, but you have the option of getting just part of it.
y2k3Joker 06-22-2006, 09:11 AM Has anybody seen anything on the '92 LA Riots anywhere? Maybe on any trader's list?
I'd be interested in getting some CNN or local coverage.

I wonder if Harvey ever dropped by George's house to play.

Supposedly Ferry Farm (The Name of George's House) is where he cut down the cherry tree. Maybe it wasn't him at all and it was Harvey all along. ;)
I am just playing along. I don't want a thread all about me being mean-lol

That's one thing that the history books never explain. The cherry tree was chopped down, George took the blame, and it was Harvey that did it! I'll bet in later years, Harvey tried to steal Martha away from George too. Bad Harvey!!
