WRONG AGAIN. I never knew PHIL WHEELER was cast member on Sanford and Son and was spinnned OFF into his own Show-"Sanford Arms" Lamont listen, ESTHER was spinned off into the Sanford Arms series and BUBBA was in a supporting role

Phil Wheeler was NOT on Sanford and Son of course

BUT he was THE STAR of THE SANFORD ARMS, they REPLACED Redd Foxx with a new lead character--- ESTHER and BUBBA remained ONLY co-stars


I have several episodes and when u watch them, GUESS WHO GETS FIRST BILLING as STARRING.... and it aint Lawanda Page....

The Sanford Arms was an attempt to continue the long-running success of "Sanford & Son" without Redd Foxx or Demond Wilson. The actors had left earlier for different reasons. Fred's old army buddy, Phil Wheeler, comes to run the Sanford Arms hotel after Fred and Lamont moved to Arizona (it was stated in the show that they left due to Fred's health). Bubba is still around, only now he is the hotel's bellboy. Esther also frequents the hotel, becoming the star of the show in Fred's absence. This was not enough to save the series, and after only four episodes, it was pulled from the air.

And if u watch the episodes you will notice that Esther has FAR LESS screen time than Phil Wheeler and his children, in fact in some episodes she barely makes a cameo!

a spinoff is a show where u take a supporting character on 1 show and PROMOTE them up into the lead role on another show----

or you take the PREMISE of 1 show and spin it off with a new star

you do NOT spinoff a supporting actor and KEEP THEM in the supporting role

that is just plain nonesense

Neither could phil since the show was yanked after 4 weeks

that the Phil Wheeler character was just dull

they needed a lead star with some charisma and he just didnt have it!

No I was just going by the length it was on the air. And no George or Weezy wasn't guest stars on Checking In. They probably would have if Checking In was picked up for the 1981-82 TV season

the show was BAD the only good ep was the thanksgiving show where he deadbeat dad came to down, that was nice

CHECKING IN was not bad at all, i liked it----but i think they realized there was only so much they could do with florence as the lead and decided to kill it

THE SANFORD ARMS (which IS a spinoff, u can spinoff a couch into a new show and its STILL a spinoff) was just awful!

Solomon, I think you have to reserve judgement on Checking In until you actually see the show, whereas you have seen Sanford Arms/Flo before. Who knows you might think Checking In is the best or the worst of the three!!

The Theme Song was even WORST. Usually when a show is bad the Theme Song is Good. But in Flo's case both were AWFUL

The person who decided to spin-off Aunt Esther, or to get technical, put her character on another show without promoting her to lead role, should never be able to write television again. Aunt Esther wasn't good in small roles on Sanford and Son. That's why I can't stand Season 5 of Sanford and Son.
