View Full Version : Extra Curricular Activities or Sports you participated in High School or College?
Janice 06-20-2006, 10:54 AM In high school, I worked after school, so I didn't have time for much. They had an extra credit Program for students working with children with disabilities. I did that my Junior Year on Saturday mornings. I also worked in the school office for a couple of years. I had to quit the Ecology Club because I just didn't have the time.
In college, I wrote for the school paper, and tutored in a few subjects (not Math).
Never one for sports.
Nighthawk76 06-20-2006, 11:24 AM In high school I played bass drum in the band. :drummer:
*MIBabe03* 06-20-2006, 11:38 AM I did choir for 2 years. It was only because I needed a fine arts credit to graduate.
vienna waits 06-20-2006, 11:48 AM In HS I was the yearbook editor. I did other things but I don't really care about them now. Now in college, I'm in a fraternity, a new student mentor, Up 'til Dawn (we raise money for St. Jude Children's Hospital), Alpha Lambda Delta (freshman honorary society), I go to FLOW (Fellowship Learning Outreach Worship), and I have a work study job. I love it all!
AllIWantIsYourClutch 06-20-2006, 12:08 PM I played tennis for four years in high school. I wrote/took pictures for the newspaper and yearbook too. And NHS, Mu Alpha Theta (math national honor society)...I was an officer for the No Name club, which didn't have much point.
PZelda 06-20-2006, 12:20 PM I took part in the Close Up program in high school, which involved some after-school work. I went to the state Close Up convention in February 2001, my sophomore year in HS. Then I went to Close Up in Washington DC in April 2002, at the end of my junior year in HS.
I took part in DECA my sophomore and junior years. Junior year, I was an overall officer, so my officer picture ended up in the DECA section of the yearbook. That involved after-school work, as well.
I was a class officer all four years in HS. After-school work there too. I can only remember being class president my freshman year; I don't remember what positions I held the other three years.
And in college, I've been working for the school paper since 2004, but I'm taking a break from it the fall semester to focus on my studies so that I can hopefully graduate on time. Being on the school paper has had its perks though...I got to go to NYC for a journalism convention. :D Love it!
swedeace 06-20-2006, 12:25 PM No, but I wish I was involved in extra-cirricular activities growing up. My dad never allowed me to join anything of that nature. I basically grew up in a very strict upbringing. But, I would have loved to have joined because of the socialization and making friends and just doing something "out of the house." It was always boring. :(
Now that I am working/in college, I am trying to search for clubs and things to join that's not very expensive. I still want to socialize more and make some friends outside of work.

hopefully next year my school will have choir. I want to become a better singer.
Brad Russ 06-20-2006, 02:39 PM I played basketball and soccer. Both teams did very well, but I was unable to afford all the equipment needed for soccer, so I had to quit that before long. Our basketball team was great. We only had one loss out of 11, and that was our very first game. We asked for a rematch against the team we lost to, but they refused to accept our challenge. :(
I was always asked to join other sports as well in school, but I preffered going home and watching tv instead. I regret that now, but back then, there was no way I was about to miss an episode of Days of Our Lives!!
dawsongirl 06-20-2006, 03:12 PM I did choir for 2 years. It was only because I needed a fine arts credit to graduate.
lol...I was in choir because the 2 guys I was in love with were.
I was in drama and speech in HS. I did nothing in college.
Karen* 06-20-2006, 03:20 PM Since I've only lived through my high school years thus far...
I was in student government for three and a half years. I was secretary for my class during my freshman and sophomore years and I was Associated Student Body Secretary during my junior year and the first half of my senior year this year. I resigned for the second half because I felt like I had waaaayyyy too much on my hands with homework, other activities, work, etc.
I was a writer and editor for my school newspaper. I was appointed Assistant Managing Editor during my junior year and became Managing Editor the next year.
I've been a member of the Link Crew (The group that coordinates activities for freshmen throughout the year) for three years.
I was president of the Multicultural Club this past year.
Nighthawk76 06-20-2006, 03:38 PM lol...I was in choir because the 2 guys I was in love with were.
As good of a reason to join as any.
cmcb06 06-20-2006, 03:48 PM I was a quarterback on the Football team for 2 years in High School, and I played Jazz Piano in band my Senior Year. OMG, the things that went on in the locker-room mmmm memories.
dawsongirl 06-20-2006, 04:01 PM As good of a reason to join as any.
I thought so. I couldn't sing, but oh well.
swedeace 06-20-2006, 04:13 PM lol...I was in choir because the 2 guys I was in love with were.
 That sorta reminds me of when I was in the 7th grade in middle school. Choir was an elective, and I signed up for it....little did I know that my crush also was taking it!! :biglove:  Man, it brought back FUN and admiring times!!
moeee 06-20-2006, 04:18 PM I was on the Bowling team in High school for 2 years. Had a 150 average.
TheGreatPretender 06-20-2006, 04:20 PM I played field hockey my freshman year in my old school. And now I'm basically a drama nerd.

EmoJoe 06-20-2006, 06:28 PM i'm in the band and chorus
I played Soccer in 9th grade. I wasn't very good, I was always better during practice than I was during games.
Yooch 06-21-2006, 06:25 AM Freshman football
Track 9th and 10th grade
I played guitar in a "garage" band, 9th through 11th grade. I played mostly rhythm guitar and back up vocalist. (I couldn't read music that well and knew a few chords--that's how most of us did it.) We had a few gigs at school dances and church basements.) In 1967, I hung up the guitar and concentrated on improving my grades in preparation for college. I still take out the guitar every now and then and dust it off and play a little.
In college, just some pick up basketball, touch football.
In graduate school, a group of friends would get together for tennis, or a bunch of friends, guys and girls would go play soccer informally on Sunday afternoons.
Hollow 06-21-2006, 07:33 AM i've always hated extracurricular activities....i'm in choir though which is sort of half class and half extracurricular activity. i joined it two years ago because i thought singing was fun, and since i got so good it became my life pretty much. i started out average and improved so much in the next few months it astonished my teacher, people who go to the concerts tell me they can distinguish my voice from everyone else's because it's so loud/powerful. sucks that next year is my last. though i'll be joining the choir at the college i'll go to.
Rachel3118 06-21-2006, 08:34 AM All I did in high school were soccer and track. Hopefully I will be able to get more involved in after school activities next year, in college.
Number 9 Dream 06-21-2006, 05:57 PM In 7th and 8th grade I was in the school chorus (I was an alto). I always look back on that time with great fondness because I actually had a lot of fun staying after for practice and with the school concerts. I still have a ticket stub from my 8th grade concert in 1996 :)
I was also in the Literary club in 8th grade...we basically worked on stories and poems and submitted them to the school's creative writing magazine. That was a lot of fun too, mainly because I LOVE writing and I got to work on some stories with my best friend at the time.
Then we moved from that school district when I was in 9th grade and I never joined a single club in my new high school--I kinda regret that :( I definitely should've been more involved. Oh, well, I did join a play group when I was in college that my best friend Bethany founded--but that had nothing to do with school. Right now I am in Phi Theta Kappa, which is basically a two year college honor society. I went to several meetings about a year ago and have participated in two volunteer events (I did the blood drive and a Halloween carnival), but I haven't been back in a while (still a member, though). I just don't have the time anymore, it seems. I just want out of that school anyway.
