View Full Version : Can Someone Explain This? Mister Ed 06-19-2006, 10:50 PM Can anyone here tell me the differene between... SP LP EP Does EP make the episode have bad quality? anglemark10 06-19-2006, 11:02 PM SP = 2 hours LP = 4 hours EP = 6 hours Using EP won't necessarily give you bad quality, but it will be worse than LP or SP. The slower the speed you use, the better quality you will get. lazygrae 06-19-2006, 11:14 PM The slower the speed you use, the better quality you will get. For any given second/minute/hour of recording time, more tape is used at SP than at EP therefore, the tape is moving faster, not slower. It is because the signal is being spread out over more tape as it moves faster that results in SP being better than LP or EP. When talking in terms of DVD, it's not about speed at all but compression with SP being less compressed than LP or EP, i.e. more data is included per second/minute/hour of time at SP. anglemark10 06-20-2006, 09:47 AM Yeah, that's what I meant. I always seem to get faster/slower mixed up in that sense. T-Greg 06-20-2006, 10:02 AM EP is also known as SLP. As many of us have found over the years, picture quality degrades with EP. You also get tracking and "jumpy picture" problems over time. SP holds up well so long as you store the tapes properly. GoldenGirlsFan92 06-20-2006, 12:26 PM SP = 2 hours LP = 4 hours EP = 6 hours Using EP won't necessarily give you bad quality, but it will be worse than LP or SP. The slower the speed you use, the better quality you will get. Also MisterEd SP has better quality than EP. Lamont 06-20-2006, 04:14 PM for dvds, i prefer to do larger sets at 4 hour speed i mean, NOONE WANTS a 45 disc set of ALICE do they? and smaller sets at 2 hour speed UNLESS the quality is not so hot to start with then i will keep it at SP speed to make it best i can:wave: cmcb06 06-20-2006, 04:45 PM And with EP vhs's i've noticed with some that overtime, they start to deteriate and get sound blurps. where it just blurps out part of it, or however you ccall it. Mister Ed 06-20-2006, 08:59 PM Okay, thanks for posting everyone! I don't want to use SP because then I can only fit 2 episodes per disc and with LP I can fit 4. I was just curious about EP. Thanks again. anglemark10 06-20-2006, 11:34 PM I tend to use LP for all DVDs I make. I figure the quality difference is so minimal that it isn't worth using double the amount of DVDs. Lamont 06-20-2006, 11:35 PM of the time that is the case! |
