I say:

Best: 60's (though I think the 70's is "next" it really is IMO a distant second. Something about the sixty's really seemed "to get it" about sitcoms)

Worst: 80's (By far the worst IMO, nothing else even comes close)

ACK! The title should read "ERA's!!" Not er's!

The 70's are the best and the 2000's the worst.

I can see that (about the 2000's). The sad thing about the 80's is the amount of great sitcoms VS the really sad and trashy stuff. At the very least the 2000's stuff I didn't like typically had some redeeming qualities.

I used to love sitcoms but the only sitcom I watch in primetime right now is My Name Is Earl. I enjoyed the sitcoms of the 80's. I think the 90's is when the sitcoms really started to decline. I do agree with you about the 60's. I don't think their was a bad sitcom that aired during that decade-at least not hit ones that I've seen.

The 1980's were probably the best area for sitcoms where as the 2000's are probably the worst.

Most of the sitcoms of the '80s had too many namby-pamby lesson morals, but then again I was born in the '80s.

The '90s had some so-so sitcoms, but by 2000, OK, click! Time to change the channel! I don't care for many of the sitcoms of 2000!

The '70s were greatness and had a nice mix between comical and serious.

The '50s and '60s, I don't seem to really get much into, save for a few.

I think the best era for TV was the 1980s. I think the worst is right now in the 2000s.

Seriously. Can anyone name 5 current sitcoms that are any good? I can't.

The Office.
My Name Is Earl.
Scrubs.
How I Met Your Mother.
Everybody Hates Chris.

need I go on?
My Name Is Earl is great and EHC is pretty good but The Office is awful and Scrubs I really could never get into. I haven't seen HIMYM so I can't comment on that.

The '70s is the era of the sitcom.

and the best ones.

The worst is right now, there is no debate for that.

Here's how I would rank them:

1. 1960s
2. 1970s
3. 1990s
4. 1950s
5. 2000s
6. 1980s

All the decades have their standout shows though. Even though sitcoms are in short supply nowadays, I think the ones that ARE here (or have been in the last 5 years) are good

The only sitcoms I could really get into in the 2000s were 8 Simple Rules and The King of Queens.

I choose 1960s for the best decade.
The best variety and the peak of "fantasy" shows (like Bewitched, Gilligan's Island, Wild Wild West, I Dream of Jeanie, The Jetsons, Batman, The Munsters, The Addams Family, etc).

Worst decade? I suppose the current one.

The 1970s, without a doubt. For me, the 70s are the best in everything. Movies, music, fashions, TV, everything.

Worst? Well it starts with a 2 and ends with a 0.
