View Full Version : Guys: Who Cuts Your Hair?
Chad Michael Murray 06-18-2006, 11:05 PM Well, not to make a thread reminiscent of good ol' Solly, (-LOL) but I decided I'd bring this to the table here at SO.
Guys, where do you go to get your hair cut? I've always gone to places like Borics and whatnot, and I used to not have a problem, but as I get older I'm seeing that they really run kind of a "get 'em in and get 'em out" kind of show. The last straw was when I wanted a new hairstyle and so I was trying to describe to the girl what I wanted, and she actually said (and I quote) "it doesn't matter how I cut it, all that matters is how you style it." Okay, yes, I can see that the way you style it would be important, but...HELLO, is it just me, or isn't it also important how the person cuts it?! That was always the impression I had.
So other guys (probably mostly younger guys, but maybe some of you older ones too) where do you like to go get your hair cut at? The barber shop? A salon where they cut men's hair?
Or girls, just so this isn't a one-gendered question, where does your guy or the men you know get their hair cut at?
I just need to find a new place and I don't want to seem like a "first timer".
Dutabi84 06-18-2006, 11:25 PM I usually go to Great Clips. It seems like the employees in these big hair cutting chains don't give a crap about how good of a job they do. So oftentimes, I end up getting a pretty half-assed haircut. So when I'm in TX, there's this Iranian immigrant lady who owns her own little shop, and she does the best job I've ever seen.
vienna waits 06-18-2006, 11:27 PM a salon.. it's not a big chain business or anything. it's probably not worth 14 dollars a haircut, but i'm really particular and the lady who cuts my hair knows how i want it and i dont have to worry about her screwing it up.
James"Thunder"Early 06-18-2006, 11:29 PM Don't laugh, I better not hear one snicker. My mother cuts my hair and does a good job, plus it's free.
Fleet 06-18-2006, 11:30 PM Mary Ann cuts my hair. ;)
Okay, now to the truth. I take the easy way out and go to Supercuts.
dawsongirl 06-18-2006, 11:38 PM and she actually said (and I quote) "it doesn't matter how I cut it, all that matters is how you style it." O_O She get her cosmotology degree in someone's garage? I'm pretty sure my stylist would say it totally matters.
I go to a little independent salon where everyone is their own boss. I've seen guys in there...heck, my stylist is a guy. And everyone I've seen walks out of there looking good. So maybe a smaller independent place would be a good place to check out.
cmcb06 06-19-2006, 12:09 AM I go to a local salon, only costs me $15 usually unless I also get a die job which I do quite a bit. Great serivce, nice stylists i see no reason to change.
Brent88 06-19-2006, 12:52 AM I go to a local place usually. I'm in a town of about 7,000, so there's no big names here.
Jonathan 06-19-2006, 12:52 AM I usuallly go to a salon. I like the barber shop though.
Mr. Stefani 06-19-2006, 02:19 AM Barber shop. I don't feel comfortable in a salon. always old people under those dryers.
crystals 06-19-2006, 10:22 AM My dad usually gets his hair cut by his girlfriend.
But, as far as haircuts go, I get my haircut pageboy style once a year and let it grow. My advice is to try to find a good place where they don't give a cheap haircut. I got my haircut cheap at a salon for $16.00 and the lady made my hair look crazy. I remember looking in the mirror and thinking it looked like "old lady hair". i didn't tell her that though because I didn't want to hurt her feelings. I don't know what kind of hairsprays she put in it, but I'm never going back there again. A lot of old ladies actually were there though when I went to get my haircut. Maybe that's what old ladies do with each other on Saturday afternoons. Get a bad haircut. Sorry for the cynicism. I absolutely hated the haircut I got and still have to wait for it to grow out before I consider getting it cut again. She gave me short bangs and I don't like them very much, so I'm waiting for the bangs to grow longer so I can get my hair cut to length so it's all even. I suggest going to a salon where you pay a little more like Chatters or someplace like that, because I think in the long run, paying a few extra bucks for a haircut styled the way you want will well be worth it.
Kazza 06-19-2006, 12:34 PM In my town, a lot of guys use Pro-Cuts.
Superstar 06-19-2006, 02:20 PM a salon.. it's not a big chain business or anything. it's probably not worth 14 dollars a haircut, but i'm really particular and the lady who cuts my hair knows how i want it and i dont have to worry about her screwing it up.
same.
Courtnee 06-19-2006, 04:51 PM I'm not a guy, but my dad and brother get their haircut at the base barbershop in the BX
it always smells bad in there =\ But hey, the hair cuts are only, like, $3 and they do a good job.
