View Full Version : Season 1 DVD edited
faraj 06-18-2006, 04:11 PM In the episode, "Overachiever" when Tootie's father (Robert Hooks) visited and tried to take her out of Eastland, the scene where Tootie tells Nancy to stop helping her pack her suitcase coz she thought she was trying to rush her out of there was left out. It's in the VHS version from the Collector's Edition, but it's been cut out of that DVD set. After the supposed commercial break where that part was originally, it went right to where the other girls were walking into that bedroom.
Pavan 06-18-2006, 04:17 PM Hmm...I wonder if the scene is intact on the Comcast on Demand episode. Anyone have it saved to check? It must have been a quick scene, because the episode runs 23:47 on DVD--around normal for that time period, although half on disc one were over 24 minutes.

This scene is indeed intact on the Comcast on Demand episode. The comcast episode runs 24:15, so that explains the 28 second time gap for the missing scene. Here are the lines that were in the scene that is missing on the DVD, just in case anyone wants to know:
Tootie: Nancy, stop helping me. You're trying to rush me out of here?
Nancy: Oh, sorry Tootie. I'm just a neatness freak. When I'm sad I straighten things.
Blair: Um, if it would help you, you can make my bed.
Also attached is a screen capture from the scene not seen on the DVD:

Yeah, thought so. I wonder if Sony can fix this DVD editing? Hope so.
Pavan 06-20-2006, 01:23 AM Impressions: Thanks for taking the time. Can you see if the runtimes of the others are off from Comcast and the DVD? One other one on disc one looks fishy.

I checked and compared the season 1 and 2 episodes' runs between Comcast's episode and the DVDs. I didn't find anymore season 1 episode that appeared to have a smaller run on the DVD as compared to the Comcast episodes. However, I did find a few smaller run times in Season 2 on the DVD compared to the Comcast episodes. Here were the comparisons:
"New Girl II" 24:42 (Comcast) 23:58 (DVD)
"Shoplifting" 24:46 (Comcast) 24:44 (DVD) There's not much of a difference here, but just letting you know.
"Cousin Geri" 24:46 (Comcast) 24:43 (DVD) Again, not much difference.
"Teenage Marriage I" 24:46 (Comcast) 24:44 (DVD) No alarming difference.
"Teenage Marriage II" 24:35 (Comcast) 23:49 (DVD)
It seems to me that the two-part episodes are much shorter than on the DVD as to Comcast. I think this is because Sony didn't include the recaps of what happend in the previous episode on the DVD as they did on the Comcast episodes. I think someone made that observation earlier here on the forums.
Overall not too much to worry about. Except for the missing recaps on the two-parters and that missing scene from "Overachieving".
faraj 06-21-2006, 01:35 AM Whoever advertises that the eps. on DVD are complete and uncut are full of sh*t, man. LOL! Nothing personal.
EricR 06-22-2006, 12:18 AM On "Teenage Marriage" Part 2 you can tell that a few seconds are missing from the beginning. When Blair is already running into the cafeteria, but in the end credits, it starts right before she runs in.
FredScuttle 06-28-2006, 09:59 AM I don't know if it's edited or not, but the first episode on season 1 was quite a bit shorter than the others, if I remember correctly (I don't have the DVD handy to double check)
TVFactFan 06-28-2006, 11:21 AM This is the main reason why i said since the first season of one day at a time was complete on Comcast On Demand that it was no reason to buy the DVD's. But I guess Sony feels most viewers don;t care about a couple of scenes being deleted
88survivor 06-28-2006, 02:29 PM So I should stay clear away of buying the 1st and 2nd Season of FOL?

Nooooooooooooooo! Please, don't stay clear away of buying the sets. Because we need enough buyers of those DVD sets to help the sales and increase the chances for the next FOL seasons to come out on DVD. Plus, not all of us, like myself, have Comcast on Demand. And besides, FOL will no longer be on Comcast.
EricR 06-29-2006, 07:24 PM Were these Season One episodes all released on vhs? If so, then I will fill in the edited episodes in my collection by buying these on EBAY.
