I don't know if this has been addressed before, but, who is the announcer on the syndicated opening title of the "classic 39" episodes? I know he was a longtime CBS staff announcer.

His name is Gaylord Avery. Here is a pic of him on Channel 2 (WCBS) in 1985.

....since CBS Films was handling the distribution of the "classic 39" episodes beginning in 1957, they wanted one of their staff announcers to rerecord Jack Lescoulie's original voice-over on the opening title {the one used during the second half of that 1955-'56 season}, and chose Avery. I found this bit of info in the mid-'80s, when Avery was STILL a CBS staff announcer- mostly doing duty on the local N.Y. news and occasionally on WCBS-TV's "overnight" 10-15 minute newscasts on Saturday nights [just slides; you never saw him on-screen]. He retired sometime in the early '90s.
