View Full Version : Dick Hansen stalking/killing
reportertype 06-13-2006, 02:14 AM I couldn't find a thread on this airing, sorry if there is one. I'm just wondering if anyone knows any info about this as far as updates?
The story is:
Dick Hansen and a friend had dinner then got into separate cars to head home. A man followed them for a long distance. Eventually, Hansen and friend pulled over and when Dick H. approached the man and asked him what was up, the man shot him. He was killed. The man then drove off. Very weird. This was in San Jose, I think, and the episode was just on. I searched around a bit and couldn't find anything.
Thanks.
Mr. Fuji 06-13-2006, 09:07 AM As far as I know, there aren't any updates, nor have I been able to find any information on this case on the web.
UMLongtimefan 06-13-2006, 08:38 PM I remember that case..
Didn't Hansen's friend have a license plate that read "49er Hugs"? They thought the reason they got stalked had something to do with the plate?
Hansen was kind of a big guy and the friend suggest that they may have thought he was a football player?
Hopefully with the popularity of cell phones these crimes will be rare.

Well, Dick had the physical consistency of a football player. Considering that the killer was gesturing toward Dick's friend's licence plate (which was a reference to the 49ers), there was speculation that the killer was a disgruntled sports fan. But the theory remains just that: a theory.

thanks for the replies!

I'm pretty sure it was a Pontiac from the early seventies, with gray colored paint.
luluhoney 06-14-2006, 04:11 PM I'm so glad other people remember this story. This is one of the most bizarre UM stories ever! When was the last time that it aired?
Mr. Fuji 06-14-2006, 04:20 PM About two or three days ago, actually. You just barely missed it.
UMLongtimefan 06-14-2006, 08:31 PM For some reason I thought the car was a Chevy Nova? I could be wrong on that though its been awhile since I saw the case (I missed the replay).
My personal thinking was it was a wannabee member of the Raider Nation (as in Oakland Raiders..the team across the bay) who took offense or whatever in their disturbed mind that Dick Hansen and his friend were in Raider territory with their 49er plate.
No offense to Raider fans but a lot of sports fans for opposing teams do really mean and weird things to other teams fans, and while murder certainly would be a REAL strech consider the fact that in many soccer stadiums around the world fans have to have seperate enterances and they are kept seperated by their seating ibeing divided by high fences sometimes with barbwire on the top. There must be a reason.
Aaron321 06-15-2006, 12:26 PM If anyone wants further info,i did a little searching and found two articles under the San Jose Mercury news.Unfortunately you have to pay to view the entire articles and i just refuse to do that.anyway go here:
http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/
go to archives and type in dick hansen.you may have to do it twice because the first time it comes up as dick AND hansen, but type again and two articles from '94 come up.
We all know about the 49ers license plate. This murder took place on April 30,1991.I was checking the archives of the NFL that season, turns out the 49ers went 14-2,but lost(49ers were favored by the way) in the NFC championship game to the NY Giants in San Francisco, keeping them from a three peat Super Bowl winner.Could this guy be ticked off and thought Hansen was a 49er player.also Montana was badly hurt in the 4th quarter and the giants kicker won the game for them on a field goal.the final was 15-13.this guy may have thought hansen was one of his offensive lineman who didn't protect the quarterback.i know i'm just throwing stuff out there, but hey this is fun!

Also if anyone is taking this case as a Raiders fan, they just happened to lose in the AFC Championship game the same year to Buffalo.
luluhoney 06-20-2006, 10:27 AM For those that recently saw the story on UM can you describe to me what the alleged suspect looked like? Thanks:)
Goofyman 06-20-2006, 05:58 PM He had glasses on with a thick black outer...part. (Sorry, not a glasses wearer) He had black hair, It wasn't long hair. He was in his 30s or 40s (or so it appeared to me)...
That's all I can remember.
UMLongtimefan 06-20-2006, 07:55 PM Goofy got a lot of the details right.
I'm going from memory here too... the frames are what goofy is referring to those appearred to be thick, as I recall the re-enactor appeared to be of asian descent although I'm not sure if they explicitly said the suspect may have been asian.

They didn't. If anything, his nationality may have been described as being that of a nation in the vicinity of the Mediterranean Sea. Perhaps closer to Europe than Asia.
UMfan77 06-21-2006, 10:58 AM He also could've been Hispanic.
