Well I had about the worst night imaginable! I took a shower around 9pm, took all my medicine, and went to bed. I didn't go to sleep right away so I watched TV. I took a sip of soda and kind of choked on it. I got soda all over my night shirt so I took it off and put on my other Pjs. My hair smelled a little like soda now even though none actually got in it and I didn't feel like washing my hair again so I just put some nice smelling Dove stuff in it. Not 15 minutes later did my head start itching sooo bad. It was driving me nuts! I asked my sister and she said my scalp was really red and to go wash my hair again. So I did and it still didn't help. All of a sudden, my chest and back and arms started to itch too! I finally had to wake up my mom cause the longer I waited, the more the rash and itching spread all over my body! She said to take a shower, use different soap than I did before and wash all over to get whatever I had on me off. I didn't remember putting anything on me but I did it anyway. I almost fell in the shower, I started to get so tired and heavy! My arms felt like they weighed 50 lbs! I came out of the bathroom to show my mom and my eyelids were swelling and my hands were soooo fat and red! My mom told me to get dressed we were going to the ER. So I did and she rushed! My sister came with us. We got to the ER at 12:55am and was taken into a room at 2:05am. I was so tired! They quickly gave me benadryl and prednisone, since I was starting to have a little difficulty breathing. I fell asleep in the hospital bed I was so exhausted and the doctor I guess kept coming in but I was asleep. Then at 3:45am, they released me since the swelling was going down and I wasn't as itchy. Of course I still was, still am right now actually, but it's not as bad. Last night was the worst night ever! I still don't know what gave me that horrible allergic reaction, but I'm thinking it was the Dove hair stuff I used. I did use it before without problems and I don't think it would make my whole body itch and swell, but I just can't use it anymore. :( So that was my evening. Eventful huh? lol

OMG...that's the worst allergic reaction I've heard of. Was anything you used or ate/drank new to you? Cuz it sounds like it was probably all stuff you've used before.

Glad everything is okay!

Thanks everyone!! Nope I didn't use anything new. The Dove stuff I put in my hair I bought a week and a half ago so I'm guessing it was that but I never had that reaction before. I used it a lot in the week and a half I had it. Still I'm afraid to use it now lol. Still itchy though. I didn't know itches lasted this long. I am continuing to take the Benadryl but it's just making me sleepy, not helping the itching.

First of all, I hope you're ok.

Could the soda and the Dove stuff have reacted together?

Was the soda a citrusy flavor? If I peel an orange, the juice and resins give my hands an allergic reaction. I have to be careful. Check the ingredients for the type of soda you were drinking.

Did you guys use a new type of detergent? Some laundry detergents cause allergic reactions.

Even though you've used these products before, it wouldn't hurt to double-check.

If all else fails make an appointment with an allergist; they can do tests to see what you're allergic to.

Take care.

Yeah I'm doing okay now, thanks! Still itchy but hopefully it will go away soon. The Er doctor said if I'm still itchy tomorrow I should see my family doctor. Nope I was drinking Pepsi. I'm definitely not allergic to that  And nope we use the same type of detergent every time we do our laundry for yeeears. My mom likes the scent lol.

Yikes! That is scary! You've obviously had an allergic reaction to something; I hope you find out what so you don't have to go through that again... :)

Six years ago, I woke up in the middle of the night, covered with hives. I felt like I had ants crawling all over me. I saw a dermatolgist. She said that sometimes they never find out what causes hives. I take a Zyrtec every morning, and it does the trick.

Every couple of months, I test it and don't take a Zyrtec, and by noon, the hives start up again. Six years, and I have no idea what's causing it or when it will end.

The doctor said it may just end one day, or maybe not.

Ooh wow! Well I take Clarinex for my seasonal allergies, so I guess I thought I was safe. But they had to give me high doses of benadryl at the hospital and two days later, I'm still itchy!
