View Full Version : Shades Of LA mhadley 06-11-2006, 12:53 AM Anyone have this series? http://www.rarevideosfortrade.com debwalsh 06-11-2006, 01:59 AM The compilation movie of Line of Fire parts 1 and 2 will air later this month on the Sleuth Channel. It was released simply as "Shades of LA" in the UK a few years ago. This is one my favorite series, and one of those shows I hope to transfer to DVD at some point in the future, but I'm not trading it at the moment. I'm hoping since it's part of the Universal library, Sleuth will end up running the entire series, not just the compilation. mhadley 06-11-2006, 02:18 AM I had never even heard of the series before but I was reading a book on horror themed TV series and saw that Shades Of LA was part of that disasterous attempt in 1990 by Universal to start their own network (which they would actually do in 1995 with UPN). The other shows which were to launch this new "network" were She-Wolf Of London and They Came From Outer Space. None made it past 20 episodes and I think this new "network" failed because they set it up in only 2 cities (New York and LA) and somehow expected that to generate enough revenue to go nationwide. debwalsh 06-11-2006, 10:50 AM I think Philadelphia was brought into the mix, or the shows were later syndicated, since I have recordings of both Shades of LA and She-Wolf from Philadelphia (courtesy of my mother at the time). My Shades of LA on Beta are copies from the LA (KTLA) broadcast. I don't remember the name of the network, but a couple of years later, a similar experiment was done with PTEN, using Warners-produced shows (Time Trax, Kung Fu: The Legend Continues, Babylon 5). I don't know if Warners was involved financially or not, since when PTEN went belly up, the funding for Babylon 5 disappeared, and that's when they hooked up with TNT. They Came from Outer Space was at one time available for purchase from the web site of one of the stars. afcassidy 06-11-2006, 02:05 PM Wow, I remember PTEN. I'd love to get some copies of old PTEN promos or original airings of shows with their commercials. :) |
