This very affecting original telefilm from Hallmark Channel succeeds despite its reliance on overly familiar dramatic conceits: A too-often-seen story line and characters who have walked into our television frame maybe one time too many. Still, they do no harm to the warmth of "Wild Hearts," a coming-of-age story that grows on the viewer very quickly.

Richard Thomas, a television perennial (and for good reason, it seems) plays a widowed cop whose teenage daughter is causing him some concern. Since her mother's death she has become a bit wild growing up in Los Angeles. So Thomas' character takes on a new role: that of sheriff of a Montana town where he also runs a Mustang ranch. The familiar plot fulfills its promise in no time but also offers some charming performances (from Hallee Hirsh, and from Nancy McKeon, as the town veterinarian), a heartfelt script by Donald Martin and Mitchell Gabourie and solid direction from Steve Boyum. Some familiar stories in our small-screen portfolios redeem themselves time and again.

Thanks raya for all the info and the links. It was nice to look at the photos (although I think this is the "thinnest" I've seen her) and reading the articles/interviews. :-D

Did anyone watch this last night? I only got to watch parts of it, but the parts I seen were okay. Nancy looked beautiful and it is strange to see her play a character with such a neutral accent compared to Jo's accent on FOL.

I saw most of it, but probably missed bits here and there. It was a cute family film kind of thing. However it was mostly a father/daughter type story so even though Nancy gets second billing, she probably has the third biggest part.

What I don't understand is that I swear Nancy looked younger here than she did on The Division and in other recent projects. I'm used to seeing her in non Jo type parts so it's not that, but I thought she looked really youthful here. It's not as if she had work done, or it doesn't look like it because she still has the normal aging lines in her face. I'm not sure if it was the slightly longer hair or the fresh air agreed with her or something, but I want to know her secret.

As for her accent, while Nancy did originally have a NY accent being from here and it still comes out from time to time, some of her "Jo" accent was exaggerated. While she always had that NY/Eastern twang her accent was never that pronounced, though if you watch some of her earlier work you can hear the accent which oddly enough sounds exactly like me when I was little. However, as most actors/newscasters/personalities know in this business you have to rid yourself of your accent if you want to get ahead. Otherwise you're limiting yourself in what you can be casted for.

I saw it twice I watched it at it's first airing then I watched the encore presentation. I thought the movie was very good for a hallmark family movie. I thought Nancy did a great job and I loved her Character even though they could of gave her a bigger part she still did a great job. And those puppies where so cute reminded me of my dog when he was a puppy.

I think the parts were evenly distributed.

You're right about Nancy's youthful look. She looked about in her early to mid 20s in the movie and her character may have been 26 in the movie(undocumented by movie lore). Kind of funny, too, as some actresses who barely turned 30 this year looks over 40.(May explain Angelina Jolie getting all the middle-aged/mid 40's aged character roles these days. LOL) Even some of the actresses who are in their lower to mid 20s look much older than that.

IF ANY OF YOU KNOW ME ON HERE, YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I ADORE NANCY. I'M ALMOST HESITANT TO ASK THIS BECAUSE I DON'T WANT IT TO SOUND NEGATIVE, BUT I HAVE TO ASK: DID ANYONE ELSE THINK SHE LOOKED, WELL, A LITTLE BIGGER THAN HER RECENT FACTS INTERVIEWS?

AT FIRST I WAS TRYING TO DETERMINE IF SHE WAS PREGNANT WITH AURORA, OR IF SHE FILMED THIS PERHAPS, PRETTY SOON AFTER GIVING BIRTH? I'LL JUST SAY THAT SHE FILLED OUT THOSE JEANS QUITE WELL:D

I ALSO THOUGHT SHE BROUGHT BACK THAT OLD NATURAL SMILE I HADN'T SEEN IN YEARS, WHICH JUST MADE HER LOOK RADIANT.

I HAD TO CHUCKLE, TOO, WHEN I SAW HER IN THE JEAN JACKET, CUZ YOU KNOW I IMMEDIATELY THOUGHT OF JO.

I THOUGHT NANCY DID LOOK BEAUTIFUL, AS USUAL, BUT THE BLACK HAIR MAKES HER LOOK HARD, COMPARED TO THE BROWN, OR LIGHT COLOR. I THOUGHT FOR THIS SOFT ROLE, THAT WOULD'VE BEEN A BETTER LOOK. BUT THEN AGAIN, JUST AN OBSERVATION, AND I'M REGRETFULLY NOT IN THE BIZ.

I WAS HAPPY TO WATCH IT BEFORE THE ORIGINALLY AIRING DATE OF 7/15/06. THIS IS A TERRIFIC MOVIE FOR THE FAMILY, AND I THOUGHT THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE FATHER & DAUGHTER WAS VERY TOUCHING. I WAS MOVED TO TEARS, WHEN SHE ASKED HER FATHER IF HE WOULD LET HER HOLD HIM (AS HE WAS DOING FOR HER), WHEN HE WAS EMOTIONAL.

ALSO, I'M GLAD THAT THE TEENAGE PART WASN'T TOO REBELLIOUS; AND THE STORY BETWEEN HER, THE VET AND TIM WAS VERY WELL PLAYED OUT.

RICHARD THOMAS WAS QUOTED TO SAY ABOUT NANCY, THAT SHE WAS, "...A DOLL....GRAND...TERRIFIC....". I ALSO READ THAT HALLEE SAID SHE LEARNED A LOT FROM NANCY, AS WELL AS HAVING OTHER NICE THINGS TO SAY ABOUT HER, AS DID ONE OF THE ANIMAL TRAINERS THAT WAS ON THE SET.

ALWAYS GREAT TO HEAR NICE THINGS SAID ABOUT HER, AS WELL AS ANY FACTS ALUM, CAUSE IT JUST PROVES WHAT A CLASS ACT THEY REALLY ARE!:cool:

This movie was filmed in Summer of 2005 I believe, so well after Aurora was born.

I'm actually shocked you thought she looked bigger since I thought she looked smaller overall and downright tiny next to the teen characters. It might have just been that she was wearing tighter jeans and smaller t-shirts that gave you the impression. I've noticed Nancy has a habit of wearing rather loose fitting clothes so when she doesn't it's a bit more noticeable.

I also actually really like the black hair, however I do agree with you that it often gives her a harder look which works for her tough girl roles. I do think the dark hair though is more striking on her features though and makes her stand out more, though I do see your point about this role.

It is odd to see her in a totally non sarcastic, world weary, mad at the world type role though. Emily was just so darn....happy. :lol:

Plus like you I'm always happy to see positive accounts about any of our FOL girls.

POINTS WELL TAKEN, BUT THE OTHER REASON I THOUGHT SHE SEEMED A LITTLE "MORE" THAN USUAL, WAS HER FACE. IT JUST LOOKED "HEALTHIER" THAN USUAL. WHICH, PERSONALLY, I THINK IS A BETTER LOOK FOR HER:)

TO ME, I THINK THE BEST SHE'S EVER LOOKED WAS WHEN SHE WAS ON FACTS. SHE WAS EVEN STRIKING WITH HER HAIR PULLED BACK! SHE HAS A DIFFERENT LOOK ABOUT HER NOW. SHE SEEMS PALER, FACE DRAWN IN, AND I DID LIKE THE 80'S HAIR ON HER, WAY BACK WHEN. EVEN IF SHE DID HAVE THE SAME HAIR AS CLOONEY. FUNNY, I NEVER ONCE THOUGHT THAT. BUT THEN AGAIN, I GREW UP IN THAT ERA, AND THAT WAS THE STYLE. FACTS MOVED RIGHT ALONG WITH THE TIMES. AND DARE I SAY, MAYBE WAS AHEAD OF ITS TIME...IN MANY WAYS.

ANYWAY, FOR ME, EVEN THOUGHT NANCY HAS DONE NUMEROUS MOVIES AND TV SERIES, SHE LOOKED & ACTED HER BEST ON FACTS....THUS FAR.
DON'T GET ME WRONG...I LOVE HER OTHER ACTING, AND NANCY HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY FAVORITE TV ACTRESS. IT'S JUST FACTS WAS OUTSTANDING TO ME-THE WHOLE ENSAMBLE, SHOW-EVERYTHING-FLAWS AND ALL, AND NANCY/JO HAD A HUGE PART OF THAT!:)
