Story, it was stated that she was 30 years old in 1974. But I just cam across an old Jet Magazine that had a photo of her posing as Jet's MagazineBeauty of the week in 1960. So if she was 30 in 1974, does that mean that Jet Magazine had a 16 year old girl pose in their magazine with a bathing suit on???-LOL

I"m confused, Maybe she lied to the Producers of True Hollywood Story about her age in 1974

I've heard 1938, which would make her 36 in 1974.

Well that would make her 22 in 1960 which would make more sense

maybe she lied abt her age because of the fact she wore a bathing suit in JET and had to be of age to do so. Or maybe her agent lied. It happens in the industry. Nothing new.

She looked like she was in her mid to late 30s and into her 40s. I don't think she was only 30.

I thought she was older as well. She looked like she was in her 40s on Good Times, not her early 30s.

She could have been born in 1940, so in 1974 that would have made her 34. That makes more sense.

Atleast We do know that she was in her 20's in 1960 to pose for Jet . We just don't know the exact age

She had to have been in her 20's in the 60's because she was on some Soap in 1970 also.

I found it comical that the show tried to make Florida and Willona the same age. It was stated that they went to school together. It is obvious by looking at them that there is a significant age difference between them. Esther was born in 1920 and Ja'net was born in 1945. Do the math.

For the sake of the show, Esther's age was not to go by her actual year of birth. She was born in 1920 would make her 54 in 1974. They had the character of Florida much younger.
How many shows do you know go by the star's actual age?
In my eyes, back in the 70's, watching the show, I never got the impression Flo was older than 40, at the MOST. According to the source I found, Ja'Net was born in 1938, making her actual age in 1974 to be 36.
Also, two people can go to school together, doesn't mean they are the same age or were in the same grade.

That sounds more realistic. Why do actors lie about their ages when there is evidence to the contrary that is in the public domain? I can think of another actress who said that she was born in 1941 yet in her official bio and in interviews it is well documented (even by her) that she graduated university then went on to win on a quiz show in the mid 1950s and used her winnings to open up an art gallery. Unless she did all of those things as a teenager you know that somebody had to be lying.

The Character and the Actress are two different people. So it doesn't make any difference how old Esther was.

And I can see why Ja'net would lie about her age, If she didn't she would've been typecast to certain roles. And plus it's none of our business how old she is.

I agree. I have no problem with the Willona character and Flo character looking different in age. Hell, I have seen women from high school and they LOOK OLD!!!! I am sorry, but I look at them and wonder what the hell happened. I look at myself and listen to the compliments I get abt not looking my age and I know that it is possible that two women who went to high school can end up looking vastly different. Willona was married and divorced, no kids. Flo married and had three kids and was poor. The way Flo had it would make anyone grow "older" in appearance after dealing with three kids, the ghetto, being poor, dealing with a hot headed husband, not having time to tend to herself, her look, her dress, etc. Willona didn't have kids, didn't have a husband, didn't have to deal with much stress. Flo's everyday stresses could have taken a toll on how she may look or appear.
