Wow, I didn't realize just how badly SGN cut these episodes!! I know that TV Land also had to cut them a bit, but they added significantly more parts to these episodes than SGN. I was pretty amazed by this.

GSU2004 06-05-2006, 11:48 AM Wow, I didn't realize just how badly SGN cut these episodes!! I know that TV Land also had to cut them a bit, but they added significantly more parts to these episodes than SGN. I was pretty amazed by this. I am surprised as we all know how TVLand butchers their shows and smashes the closing credits to air their dumb promos. TV Knowledge Fan 06-05-2006, 12:59 PM ...that the "SCREEN GEMS NETWORK" was basically a syndicated package of shows that SONY PICTURES TELEVISION tried to showcase without actually "selling" those shows individually to local stations...kind of like a "Whitman's Sampler" of their TV inventory. The way they presented these shows, with "mock promos" and "previews" for upcoming shows during each hour (and "promotional consideration"), they had to cut a bit MORE out of each episode than usual [20 minutes running time vs. 22 minutes, the "regular" running time for syndicated editions of their shows], and that included the closing credits as well. TV LAND has the exclusive rights to show "BENSON" on cable for the next three years (at least)...and that covers the 22 minute version of each episode with the "short" opening [and the "tags" of each episode omitted as well]. :tv: Scoobiedoo30 06-09-2006, 11:35 AM I never knew screen Gems Network cut The episodes of Benson TV Knowledge Fan 06-09-2006, 02:36 PM ...'agmfox8'. I remember when they showed the pilot episode of "I DREAM OF JEANNIE". They omitted the final scene where Captain Nelson abruptly breaks off kissing Jeannie {from the fade-out of the second act}, and tells her "...you have GOT TO GO! [And] when I get up in the morning, I don't want to see you here!", then yells at her when she tries to enter his bedroom in smoke, and she KNOWS there's 'someone' watching her at that moment, and "blinks" the picture off, ending the episode. That's about one minute saved, so "SGN" could run one of their "previews", "mock promos", "promotional consideration spots", or whatever. :wink2: GSU2004 06-12-2006, 10:06 AM Does Screen Gems Network still exist? If so, what shows are they broadcasting and butchering now? I know when the network in Atlanta fully converted to UPN programming and formatting, they dropped it. Screen Gems aired the "long version" where they play the theme song, and while they play the theme song, Benson arrives in a cab, is frisked by the Security Guard, gets wet running through the sprunkler system, and gets chased by the dogs (as explained by Benson to Marcy at the beginning of the episode). The TVLAND version of the pilot just shows the outside of the Governor's Mansion with the names of the cast flashing briefly on the screen. RWCTV 06-13-2006, 12:15 AM can someone tell me what year Screen Gems went off The Air It was either 2001 or 2002. The first "Season" was The Jeffersons and Benson, and the second "season" was Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie. This is the reason why I hate syndication cuts. I'm surprised that Screen Gems showed that much as they butcher the shows to allow for the useless trivia and promos for their products. BensonFan 06-13-2006, 05:12 PM can someone tell me what year Screen Gems went off The Air April, 2001. That was the last time I got to record a Benson episode. ThomasE 06-13-2006, 11:40 PM That is the same time I taped Jessica's second appearance on Benson. The ep seemed very butchered. |
