View Full Version : Is there really a place called St. Olaf?!
Ajax2006 06-03-2006, 10:48 PM If so then is it really in minnesota, cuz that's were Rose says it's at.
What also puzzles me is where Rose's ancestery comes from,I could of sworn
she said she was scandinavian, that's the reason she said those weird words. But if St. Olaf is in minnesota then why would the people there talk like they are from out of the country?!
GoldenGirlsFan92 06-03-2006, 11:41 PM No there isn't. but there is a St. Olaf college in Minnesota.

The reason they would talk differently is because many scandinavians immigrated to the US for a period in the 1800's. A place where many, many Scandinavians moved, was Minnesota.
Ajax2006 06-11-2006, 10:17 AM Interesting, you definitely cleared up that last part for me!

No problem, glad to be of help.
The word mentioned above "Vanskapkaka" when does Rose say that? Translated into swedish, that means "Friendship-cookie", all you need is an s after the p and two dots over the first a, "Vänskapskaka".
Ajax2006 06-14-2006, 09:48 PM Rose said that word during one episode, she came out of the kitchen saying
"Does anybody want any want any Vanskapkaka?" or something, and Sophia went "As long as I don't have to show you mine."
Rue_McClanahan 06-18-2006, 09:23 PM Thanks for the article. I always wondered if there actually was a St. Olaf, now I know. I figured they made it up though cause of the way she talked about the town. I figured they wouldn't make the town sound like that if it actually existed.
