I know this was a spinoff of Soap, but Benson's theme music is way too similar to Soap's theme music. I am not liking that.

i like it - every time i hear it I get happy because I know that I am going to be enjoying the next half-hour :)

I'm sure that's what the writers were going for--music that sounded similar because it's a spinoff.

I like it myself but I guess as part of a marathon it can be a bit much after awhile. That's what happens to me when I watch too much "Three's Company" too. :D

It damm sure is similar-lol I guess since the Parent show had a instrumental opening theme, the spinoff would have have the same type of opening

...but my only complaint is that, in these "syndicated" opening titles of the show, the 30 second version is the ONLY one used. I enjoy listening to the full one minute version- that's how I first saw it on ABC. Hopefully, when SONY releases "BENSON" on DVD, the full titles AND theme will be restored.

I think by airing the short theme (it seems more like 20-25 seconds), they can air more scenes from the episodes. Can anyone make a sound clip of the closing credits? TVL has aired some closing credits without the split screen. Would love to have that for SitcomsOnline.com's archive. You would be credited for making it. Thanks!

I haven't heard the theme song from Soap in ages, so I can't compare it to that. I think the Benson theme song is catchy, but in a marathon, it does get to be too much. It's playing like I have a radio in my head, lol.

N@N only aired one episode. TVL didn't air that episode in the marathon, so it will be interesting if the full opening for that episode will air in the regular rotation.

If you notice, the music for the beginning of the scenes and ending of scenes is similar to that of the Golden Girls.

All of Witt-Thomas-Harris shows have similar scene music--Soap, Benson, Golden Girls, Empty Nest, Golden Palace, etc.

Geroge Aliceson Tipton was Witt/Thomas/Harris' #1 composer. They liked his bouncy, offbeat scores...and continued to use his services on all of their other series after "SOAP"...that's why the themes and music cues tended to sound "the same"...and it helped those shows considerably. I just wish Sony and Touchstone hadn't decided to use the shorter versions of the "BENSON" and "THE GOLDEN GIRLS" themes exclusively in syndication (and cable)!
