I can see how this show failed, because the characters were just so boring. The Hotel manager Lyle Bloch was irritating, Betty the maid was a grumpy lady, and Earl the hotel detective was borderline ********. The only half way decent character was Elena (Florence's assistant) and she was just nice and sweet, not funny. Plus her office was real dingy looking.

a good example of a great character not being able to carry a show...another example: Flo from Alice.

Believe it or not, Florence wasn't so bad, it was the supporting cast around her that stunk. They tried to make the hotel manager, a white version of George Jefferson.
