Yes, I saw Isabel's Intimate Portrait on Liftetime and she did say that she did not like the idea of Sherman playing her husband. Well, he was small, compared to her. I can sympathize with her, because I like big, tall men too.

But my point is it wasn't her real husband, just her TV husand-lol I think she took the husband thing a little too seriously

Vivian Vance (Ethel Mertz) had the same issue with William Frawley playing Fred. She knew that audiences take characters seriously and she didn't want people to think she would "ever marry that man!" She never liked him. He didn't like her either.
I think maybe Isabel thought somewhere along those lines. I mean, she would have to have kissing moments with her co-star, she would want it to be someone she could at least like.

Isabel's rack alone was bigger than Sherman's head.

I can relate. I'm not a large woman like Isabel was, but I'm not petite either. I know I love the fact that my husband is a tall, big man. It makes me look smaller, lol.

I would want a big guy cast as my husband too.

But why would that matter if it's only a TV Husband?-lol And she wasn' supposed to show Sherman how upset she was about him being the husband. That was very unprofessional and rude

Isabel would care about the size of her TV husband because she's still a woman, and would probably like to have a big strapping guy to work with. That's understandable and not hard to understand, but I agree, she didn't have to be rude about it.

I'm sure John Amos was not that happy about having to play Esther Rolle's TV Husband but he was professional about it and he knew he was still working-lol Same thing with Raymond Allen playing Lawanda Page husband on Sanford and Son, i'm sure he would have wanted someone else too

In many clothes that Isabel wore on the show a lot of cleavage was showing and some of them showed too much. I believe after a while they cared for each other. After The Jeffersons left the air you saw Sherman and Isabel together in various appearances. The saddest one was the TV Land Awards show where it was her last appearance before she passed away. You can tell she was on her way out and was frail. You can never tell that Isabel was about 18 years older than Sherman until that TV Land appearance.

On the flip side, you had a guy like Jackie Gleason who didn't want Audrey Meadows playing his wife because he felt that she was way too pretty and unbelievable to play his wife.

I remember reading something about him not wanting her in a 1975 TV guide but couldn't remember why. Well that is a flipside-lol

Now a days, it is the norm to see ugly, frumpy guys with beautiful wives. Everybody Loves Raymond, King Of Queens, Still Standing, According to Jim, etc.

Such a thing as too much cleavage doesn't exist and it never will  Especially not when you have someone like Isabel with mountains which lead to 40 inches of cleavage when properly showed off

Yeah, one of the only times that she actually brought the DDDs out  One of the only other times I can think of is the episode with Sammy Davis, Jr. where she was wearing a blue track suit where they weren’t out as much as the Halloween episode, but they were there and she was jiggling all over

It seems Miss Sanford was momentarily unhappy when they introed Mr. Helmsley as George to her due to him being so much smaller than she but then she got on with it and realized that the much smaller George STILL occasionally overwhelming the much bigger Louise was far more comedic than were George bigger/the same size! Of course, she also realized that audiences seeing the tiny, birdlike Mother Jefferson get her goat was even more gold! Oh, and since Miss Sanford would work the Mr. Helmsley playing Jefferson-esque characters on other shows and even commercials for quite a few years after the Jeffersons went off the air, she knew that they'd developed unparalleled chemistry and was happy to reap more gold!
