This past season I burnt a few shows that a friend of mine was interested in. Well I burnt them with the burner hooked up to my tv. It seems I'm unable to copy any of them. I tried using DVDFab Platinum and Nero SmartStart but neither worked. Can anyone tell me why these discs can't be copied. Thanks for any help I can get. Jim

I dont know. I paid 350.00 for the one I got. I dont know if Id call it cheap. But it does better than a Sony one that I got on sale for 600.00. Well it cost me 400.00 but it was originally 600. Anyway thanks for the comment. Jim

so you have a set top DVD recorder that you used to record TV shows?

Is that correct?

First 2 things you need to check:
1- Are the disks finalized?
2-Did you record them in Video mode or VR mode?

If you recorded in VR mode you will need to convert it to Mpeg2 format then author it to DVD.

Yeah I have a set top DVD Recorder. I do always finalize the dvd's. And I have no idea about VR mode and video mode and all that. How do you change the modes on it. I put dvd's in and record and thats pretty much as far as it goes. Also for the shows Ive already burned, how would I convert them to MPEG2 format. I appreciate your help. Thanks. Jim

Ok well you should read your manual to find out which is video and which is VR. VR pretty much can only be read by your dvd recorder.

If you have a disk that is recorded in VR mode, you can put it into your DVD drive open it and it will show a file that is unrecongnized by windows.

A normal DVD, either commercial or home made witll have an AUDIO_TS folder and a VIDEO_TS folder, if your disk does not then most likely it was recorded in VR mode.

You can convert a VR file to Mpeg2 using TMPGenc 2.5 I *think* I did it once, and it was a loooong time ago so I can't really give you the specifics, but if TMPGEnc can open it, it should be able to convert it for you.
