I know all of ya'll hate Barry for what he did, but give him his due. Nobody's perfect. People say he did steriods, but didn't test results showed nothing? Hell, look at Babe Ruth. He was a 300 pound fat slob of an non-athlethe. The Babe was also a boozer and a woman beater. It amazes me how people say Babe was a great athlethe. He was a great HOME RUN HITTER. An athlethe is someone who is in shape night in and night out and who can run. Babe was none of that, plus competition was different then, there weren't many teams in the league then. When Barry Bonds passes Babe, and it will happen, he at least deserves that recognition.

I hadn't heard any negative stuff abt Barry until this home-run hitting record talk started. Ok, tests are negative abt steroids. But what is being said abt Barry being a racist. I never heard of this. Do you know what all the negative stuff is abt?

I don't know. that is what has been said on this board. I had never heard anything abt him being a racist. Which is why i want actual sources, not, "well, I heard this..." I don't get it either Kool. I like sources for stuff like this.

I think alot of people base it on this, although this is just one man's word against anothers, so you can't take it too seriously. He also made a comment about Babe Ruth a few years back that many people considered racist. I'll have to find that quote sometime.

Bonds Blasts Kittle Over Racist Comments

Thursday June 09, 2005 5:18pm from our sister station WJLA-TV

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Barry Bonds blasted former White Sox slugger Ron Kittle, whose recently released book quotes the San Francisco star as saying "I don't sign for white people" before a game at Wrigley Field 12 years ago. "Who is Kittle? How long did he play? He played in our league?" Bonds said, lying on a clubhouse couch before Thursday's game against the Kansas City Royals. "Ha! Do you guys believe that? ... Do you guys know my life history a little bit? ... One, you insult my children, who are half-white.

"I was married to a woman who was white, so let's get real. I don't even know the guy. Tell him he's an ... idiot. Somebody said he wanted a piece of me. Tell him I'm at 24 Willie Mays Plaza and he can come get me anytime he wants to - with pleasure. Don't insult my family."

In Kittle's book, "Tales from the White Sox Dugout," he writes that he approached Bonds at his locker in the visitors' clubhouse at Wrigley Field about autographing some jerseys to be auctioned for a cancer charity. Kittle retired after the 1991 season, and Bonds and the Giants were in Chicago to face the Cubs.

"It's the truth. I don't lie," Kittle told The Associated Press in a phone interview Tuesday. "I tell it as it is. It's unfortunate it happened. And I didn't bring it up to sell the books."

Kittle said the book's co-author, Bob Logan, asked him to write about the good and bad aspects of the game.

"This was one of the rotten things that happened," Kittle said.

While he was furious at Kittle, Bonds said Thursday he was pleased with the progress of his surgically repaired right knee. But he dismissed a report that he hit soft toss in the batting cage Wednesday, saying he was just playing catch.

"Hey, Murphy, have I touched any of my bats?" he hollered to longtime equipment manager Mike Murphy. "I don't even know where they are."

Bonds has had three operations on his right knee since Jan. 31, the most recent on May 2 to drain fluid and examine an infection. He has not played this season.

Bonds said he isn't ready to guess when he might be back in the batter's box. Bonds has a routine doctor's appointment Friday to have his blood tested and another Sunday. Trainer Stan Conte believes Bonds could be off antibiotics sometime next week.

Will Bonds he back this season?

"I still don't know," Bonds said. "You guys will know when I'll be ready. You'll see. There's no reason to discuss that stuff until I'm with my teammates on the field."

Bonds said in spring training he could miss half the season or even the entire year, but has been more optimistic recently about a return. One popular timetable - though the club won't make any predictions - has Bonds returning sometime around the All-Star break. He turns 41 on July 24.

Bonds is third on the career home run list with 703, 11 behind Babe Ruth and 52 from tying Hank Aaron's record. Bonds batted .362 last season with 45 homers and 101 RBIs and walked a major league-record 232 times on the way to his record seventh MVP award.

That may be true, but when he passes Babe, that's going to have to matter and the media will have no choice but to recognize it.

There will always be an asterisk by his records and I will be fine with that. Barry Bonds says he used steriod creams and clear which can't be detected by drug tests. He claimed he didn't know what they were. (Which is bull****)

He also made remarks about Babe Ruth which can be considered racist. If a white guy said the same thing about Hank Aaron, he would be hung by his feet. But because Bonds is black, he gets a free pass.

You obviously haven't done your homework on Ruth. He was a Hall of Fame pitcher before concentrating on his hitting. He also hit home runs in MUCH BIGGER ballparks than the little band boxes that are played in right now. When TEAMS were averaging 10 home runs, Ruth was hitting 30 or 40 by himself. He was also very fast for his size. He averaged about 10-17 steals a year.

Like I said, Babe wasn't no athelete. Remember, he played in a different era, an era and a league WHERE NO BLACKS WERE ALLOWED TO PLAY! So things could have been different with the Babe if that weren't the case. And how do you figure Barry Bonds gets a free pass because he's black? White athlethes are the ones to get a free pass as far as I'm concerened. Instead of griping at Barry Bonds, what about that crap what Johnny Rocker said? Yeah, he's the one who got a free pass, even Ted Turner stuck up for him and defended that racist!

Huh??? John Rocker certainly did not get a free pass. His comments were all over the media and he was essentially black balled from Major League baseball, never to be heard from again.

As for Bonds, what he is getting right now is his own fault. He treats the media like crap and he is a cheater and a racist. The only people celebrating him passing Ruth are the people who live in San Francisco. Major League baseball isn't even going to celebrate his achievement. I wonder why that is?

Brian, I am not going to argue with you! Johnny Rocker got a slap on the wrist and was told to not say that again! his comments caused more of an outroar than what you think Barry Bonds did or said.

As far as Babe being an athlete, tell him to run track or jump a high fence! He was fortunate to be able to hit home runs because if hadn't, his fat butt would have never made it to first base.

Lord, no disrespect to the dead.

Slap on the wrist? LOL He was devoured by the media and practically kicked out of baseball.

Babe Ruth was fast for his size, so I really don't know why you would say that. You obviously know nothing about Babe Ruth.

Bonds deserves zero recognition- he is "in shape" because he is mutated because of steroids.

It is a basically a fact, and he will eventually be discredited.

Quit while you're behind.

Oh, you see it does matter. He will never get the respect of being an all time great. Nobody will say Barry Bonds was better than Babe Ruth because Babe didn't cheat. I guarantee you that when it is revealed that he cheated, there will be an asterisk by his name, which is just as good as him not passing Ruth.

I read in the San Diego Union-Tribune that fans in Northern California didn't get to hear the home run on the radio due to technical difficulties. All they heard was that the ball was going to center and that was all they got to hear besides the roaring fans.
