Here's another regional speech thread - this one's for Philly! :D
wooder - what you swim in
wooder eyes - water ice, like "Italian ice" but mushier
"Meet me at the eagle" - a reference to the eagle in the central court of Wanamaker's deaprtment store (now a Lord and Taylor)
the Blue Route - Interstate 476 between Chester and Norristown (so called because when first proposed, it was drawn on maps in blue pencil)
75 on the square - i.e., 75 degrees Fahrenheit on Rittenhouse Square, in the southwest corner of Center City
the Sure-Kill - the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76), so nicknamed because of its dangerous curves and high fatality rate :eek:
choklit - what Hershey's makes
benaculars - what you use to see something far away
Fillufya, Fluffya - two other ways to pronounce the city's name
downashore - the Jersey shore, epsecially between Atlantic City and Cape May
Thristy - the day before Friday :lol:
tal - what you use to dry yourself with after a bath
the Ben - the Benjamin Franklin Bridge
the Wall Women - the Walt Whitman Bridge
