I don't understand that is soaps, i think that in Mexico is 'Telenovela' = 'soap opera'

Well, my favorite mexican soap is:

"Cuna de lobos" - "Cradle of wolves" (in english)

For me, is the best soap opera that is one of the best dramas that I had ever seen...

Review by Wikipedia

The most memorable character in Cuna de Lobos, and central to its storylines and themes, is matriarch Catalina Creel, played by actress María Rubio, a villainess in the grand dramatic tradition of Dynasty's Alexis Carrington, or Dallas' J.R. Ewing.

Catalina Larios, widow of Carlos Larios, the head of the international pharmaceuticals giant Lar Creel poisoned and killed her husband to gain control of his empire, but was betrayed in his will when he left it to whichever son - Alejandro (Alejandro Camacho) or Jose Carlos (Gonzalo Vega) - produced a son and heir first. Alejandro's wife Vilma (Rebeca Jones) was infertile so he wooed and secretly married (or she thought he did) Leonora Navarro (Diana Bracho) and got her pregnant. When the son - Edgar - was born, Alejandro revealed his true colours and told Leonora the marriage was a sham, and took the baby and passed it off as his and Vilma's. Leonora then planned revenge - she married Jose Carlos, the brother, and moved herself and her godmother into the Larios house, and plotted to unmask Alejandro's deception - but opened a can of worms, because Catalina was meanwhile knocking people off left, right and centre who got in her way.

A soap is just the short way of saying soap opera, that's all. So you're right on the money there.

Back in the 70's there was a mexican soap opera that i loved to watch with my sister. it was called Maria Teresa. It was in black and white. I wish i could see it again. I haven't any luck finding any info on it on the net.

i think the most popular one was the one starring Erik Estrada, Dos Mujeres Un Camino. Everyone talked abt that one.

I used to watch one sometimes on one of those Spanish channels called "Betty la Fea"...although I can only understand minimal Spanish, I watched it anyway because I thought it was hilarious how ridiculous they made the girl look.

My favorite novela now is Rebelde!!! I've been watching it since it started last year. I love Dulce Maria (Roberta), but I don't like Anahi's character (Mia) in this one, although I like Anahi. Truth is, I get addicted to those Spanish language novelas!!!

Y soy rebelde cuando no sigo a los demás, Y soy rebelde cuando te quiero hasta rabiar, Y soy rebelde Cuando no pienso igual que ayer, Y soy rebelde...

I don't like this soap so much, but the final chapter in Mexico will be the next week...

This is one of the most popular soaps in the world, the Colombian version is great, but i have never seen this soap/novella, i hate the mexican version

The ABC is making a new american version of this popular soap, "Ugly Betty", produced by Salma Hayeck

Soaps and telenovelas have one main difference. Telenovelas have a set beginning, middle, and end, and run for a certain number of months.

Soaps can pretty much run for as long as the networks/production companies want it to. The storylines change and characters evolve, all over years and years. It's really like taking a look inside the lives of the inhabitants of a town. All of the current US soaps have been on the air for several years, with seven of them being around more than 30 years.

OMG wasn't that a trip???? I would do that too. Of course, I understand spanish, but the words didn't mean nothing, the face of that girl did. Betty La Fea in spanish means Ugly Girl Betty.

As for that other soap, REBELDE, I seen one episode once...the doctors office for some reason had it on that channel and I had no choice but to watch it. It was so crazy!!!!!

I am addicted to Rebelde. It's laughable, but at the same time, it's so easy to get absorbed in the whole plotline. However, I think most of the characters are despicable/annoying. Gah, I even started writing my own episode of it (en español). :/
