I know I do. Taxi is just not mentioned as much as other sitcoms from the same generation.

Do i HAVE to? Well, the characters were all cliches ( the boxer, the actor, the immigrant, the hot girl etc. ) , the plots were only soso ( You can only do so much in a cab Stand ), the show's pace dragged and the character of Louie set people's perception of short people back 100 years...All I kept hearing at the time was how all short people were ".. ***holes, just like that Louie guy" ..being a small person myself, I hardly think we needed a show that perpetuated that "short" stereotype

Short Stereotypes?

yup, anyway, you asked , and i responded :)..Oh and if youre mocking me here...I spent many years being beaten up for no other reason than i was short ( Which made me an EZ target, i suppose ) and had to endure long bouts of depression and therapy sessions for years, not to mention discrimination when i looked for work; believe me, descrimination towards short people is no laughing matter:nonono:

First, to answer the Taxi question. No, I don't think it was underrated. If it were shown now as a new show, then, in my opinion it would be formulaic and cliche. I think it is one of the best shows of its era. Now...that having been said, I'd like to address your point, Mikado...and I can relate.

I'm a 5'4" male. Actually, I'm about 5'3 1/2" so I'm not even 5'4"; it's rounded off for my driver's license! I feel that I've missed out on a lot from being short, but I've come to accept it (I better have by now. I'm 56 years old). Honestly, I haven't been kidded that much in my life about my height. A few people in the military called me shorty and once in a while a kid will say, "Hey, you're short." and I'm thinking, "no s*** the hell with you, too", and just blow it off.

I don't think Louie DePalma gave short people a bad name. People hated him, I believe, because he was a total jerk, not because of his height. His short stature was just a convenient way to get at him.

I've heard statistics that women prefer taller guys, and it's probably true in general, but I don't care, really. The kind of women I would be interested in anyway would be those for whom height is not an issue.

What really set short people back is that stupid "Short People" song by Randy Newman. He was supposedly, according to him, satirizing the stereotype, but, man, that song hurt.

I can relate to what you said.

Very underrated. It's always been one of my favorite shows, but I really don't know too many people who like it. It's one of the few shows that I can watch over and over again and not get sick of. Louie DePalma, Alex Reiger, Reverend Jim and Latka Gravas were some of the best sitcom characters ever.

I think it's underrated. I'm in the UK, and I don't know many people who are fans of it. Then again, I'm not sure how popular it was when it was first broadcast here. I was born in 1988, so I never saw the original UK airings, although repeats were run until about 2003. Practically no people my age have heard of it.

I also fully agree with what Yooch says about it probably not being Louie's height that caused people to make fun of short people more. As Yooch said, Louie was basically a horrible person.

Mikado, you don't seem to be a fan of the show. Did you like Jim at all? He's my favourite character (and I think Christopher Lloyd is a very good actor.) I first saw him as Doc in the Back to the Future movies, which I think are wonderful.

I think it is underrated. I mean you don't hear about it alot and I was glad that at the 2007 TV Land Awards it got The Medallion Award because it doesn't get as much credit as it deserves. I haven't seen alot of the show, I just started watching more episodes because my dad has Sesaon 2 on dvd and my favorite characters are Tony, Elaine and Jim.

I first saw Christopher Lloyd in the Back to the Future movies also and I love those movies.

I agree with everyone here, its underrated. I'm from the UK and watch it on Paramount Comedy 2 each morning and I only knew it existed eariler this year. You would of thought it would be better known with actors like Danny Devito and Christopher Lloyd being in the show.
