I felt really bad for Barbaro yesterday, not just because he lost the race, but because he fractured his leg. This means he'll never race again. :(

Congrats to Bernardini for the win though! The 131st Preakness Stakes Winner! This was only his 4th race! :eek: :)

I'm devastated!!! What other word can I use to describe how I feel after watching Barbaro, who I saw only two weeks ago crossing the finish line at Churchill Downs on Derby Day, rush out of the gates at yesterday's Preakness Stakes in Maryland only to suffer a catastrophic leg injury within moments of clearing the gate? I was watching on television and couldn't believe my eyes! I immediately called my father on his cell phone, as he was at Pimlico watching the race in person. He was just as upset as I was and he told me the entire crowd was heart-broken and not in much of a mood to celebrate for the winning horse, Bernardini. At this point, it is not known whether surgery will be able to help the horse or if he will have to be put down. Having grown up and spent all of my life around horses, I know how heart-wrenching situations such as this can be, as I have experienced it several times firsthand on the horse farm. My heart goes out to the owners, the trainer and the jockey of this beautiful and magnificent horse, and I will pray surgery will be able to help save his life... Another Triple Crown hope diminished...

I agree totally! WOW! Finally someone who really cares about the horses the way I do! :)

Hopefully he will be able to survive.

It's so sad. The poor animal.
