the George: the George Washington Bridge

upstairs, downstairs: the upper and lower levels of the George Washington Bridge

the Willie B: the Williamsburg Bridge

Pawtauthority: the Port Authority Bus Terminal in midtown Manhattan

oil: a royal title given to the late Princess Diana's brother ("Oil Spencer")

earl: what you heat your house with

buttah: an alternative to margarine

Lawn Guyland: the Nassau and Suffolk County suburbs

the IRT: the part of the subway formerly called the Interborough Rapid Transit

"Gedoutaheah!": "You're putting me on!"

upstate: anywhere north of the Bronx

the Tap: the Tappan Zee Bridge

"Juseedat?": "Did you see that?"

the Met: either the Metropolitan Museum of Art or the Metropolitan Opera House

the Outaboros: Brooklyn, the Bronx, Staten Island, and Queens

knish: a doughy potato-filled pocket pastry
