Do you agree that the Munster family lost a lot of its 'spookiness' after the first season? The second season opening shows all of the family coming out all jolly and happy, unlike the first when they looked dark and gloomy. And, overall, they seemed happier and lighter-hearted in the second season. Is it just me? Do you feel this way?

I think by then everybody knew what it was about and who the characters were. Herman was a goof and everybody knew it. They didn't have to show him stern faced coming down the stairs anymore.
I think they might have redone the new opening sequence for two reasons:
1. To use surf-type music that was really popular at the time.
2. So they could show Herman smashing thru the door.
Of course, I could be wrong, but it seems reasonable to me... :D

hmmm dont really remember anything particularly diff from one season to another
I guess the main difference I see is that in the first season, they show Grandpa trying to bite Lily, Lily looks all creepy and spooky, Herman has a stern look on his face, Lily is pointing her finger at Eddie, etc....Then in the second season they come out all jolly and happy. (I like the second opening more, btw).

oh ok....you were talking exclusively about the opening? I thought you used the opening as an example for how the entire show changed over the first two seasons...Well, ok, i guess

I agree they did lose their spookiness, though I would say after Pat Priest joined the cast. They became loveable.

They also toned down Herman's makeup after the first few episodes, in which
he looked more like Boris Karloff. As has been noted elsewhere on this board,
Grandpa's makeup underwent continual but subtle changes. To me, Lily and Eddie always looked about the same.
Yeah, true. I like Herman's later look more, and Grandpa's later one- I guess because that's what I'm used to seeing.
