Back in the 1963-1964 season of Jackie Gleason and His American Scene Magazine, there was an episode that included a sketch whereby Reggie Van Gleason 3d (as The New York Times would've called him then) ran a troupe of performing fleas. The show won the Bronze Rose (third place) at the 1964 Montreux TV Festival, and aired in Britain on BBC2 on June 18, 1964. Question is, what was the original U.S. airdate of this show?

Not sure of original airdate, but a classic sketch it was!

Check Phil Gries' TV audio site (link below). Search "american scene magazine" and you'll pull up 4 pages of shows. There are short descriptions on each, but nothing referencing that particular sketch. If you know what else was done on that particular show, you may be able to narrow it down.

I also noticed that TV.com has an episode guide to The American Scene Magazine. I saw some descriptions of episodes in the 1963-64 season that may be close, but no cigar:

If y'all can make heads or tails of it all, more power to ya.

It is also pertinent, because it appears the format of Gleason's show, especially as it was structured in 1963-64, would be the impetus for the revamping of Benny Hill's shows from the mid-1960's onwards in Britain. Even the bit of Barbara Heller as "Christine Clam" introducing sketches was lifted by Hill - albeit with different cast members both male and female.

I think the Radio Times (the BBC's TV and radio listings) for the week of June 13-19, 1964 (issue dated June 11) would be your best bet to find out what was on this particular show. I do know, besides that one sketch, that Joe the Bartender and Crazy Guggenheim were on as usual. You may have to search either in your local library or on eBay or wherever.
