This is a disappointing schedule.

They ditch Everwood but keep a repeat? Not only that... they completely surrender Sundays at 9(if your gonna air a repeat air it at 7).

The whole night's gonna collapse... Chris will die at 7pm.

Mr. Monitor

Will Smith saved that shows hide once again!!!

Otherwise the schedule looks decent. I think they should pickup maybe two or three other shows for mid-season.

Yup. Chris is in a bad slot. Its doomed - and its pretty good, a real shame. Too bad CBS wouldn't have any place for it - it'll go down in TV history.

He's not on the show but he is the executive producer along with his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith.

I'm really disappointed All of Us was saved over Half & Half, which seems to do quite decently.

Ugh.

At least Reba got a mid-season 13 episode order to wrap things up. Thank GOD.

And I think the CW could of at least renewed Everwood and plugged it in somewhere. At least midseason. And they're wasting a prime Sunday slot on a REPEAT. Sheesh.

Everybody Hates Chris is doomed, which really sucks. Although it might benefit from being the only worthwhile show in its timeslot.... but would lose to The Simpsons at 8.

They should put All of Us in that timeslot. Chris should go in the 8 pm slot it has major upside potential.

masterblooregard

Sunday is ridiculous. An ANTM repeat at 9? They could have given one of their new pilots a shot, or not cancel one of the shows they axed instead. And Chris at 7?? Why are they trying to kill it?

Wings#1ShowPeriod

7:00 Everybody Hates Chris
7:30 All of Us
8:00 Girlfriends
8:30 The Game
9:00 Americas Next Top Model (R)

So its good that EHC doesn't go against The Simpsons or the beginning of Sunday Night Football, itll go against the FOX overrun a few times but overall I think itll do well.

Wednesdays look good for me, and I'm glad Smallville is staying on Thursdays. I'll be watching on Fridays as well, and then Sundays if that's what night they show Reba...now I'll finally be able to watch it again, since it won't be up against Smackdown!

Plus, I'm hoping OTH will do really good this year, since ANTM was doing a lot to hurt it in the ratings, but now they'll be back to back.

EDIT: Okay, so I just saw the Aquaman trailer and...DAMNIT, THAT GUY WAS HOT!! I'd like to have a WORD with the sicko who decided not to include that on the line-up this Fall!!

Buffyboy323

OTH was hurt by Top M<odel last year. This year, it's gonna be murdered by LOST at 9pm. This is horrible. (Well thank god Veronica is on Tuesdays again).

And do we really need Top Model, then an encore of it on Sundays???? They should have just thrown Top Model with the other UPN shows on Sundays, and put Everwood alongside OTH. So stupid!

Wings#1ShowPeriod
05-20-2006, 03:49 PM
Yep, OTH was going against UPN #1 show last year. Now that the networks have merge I hope OTH will do fine which I think it will, I'm just glad Haley wasn't left on that bridge.

Chad Michael Murray
05-20-2006, 06:48 PM
I think OTH will be fine this year. ANTM was it's opponent this season, and now this coming season they'll be paired together and I think they'll make an excellent combination.

I don't think Lost will be any competition for it at all, because the two shows aren't very similar at all, and I think each one appeals to a person with different types of interests. (Not in all cases, but some)

I like this schedule a lot. Reba has proved that it can do well Sundays in the opening hour (its repeats have done up to 3 million viewers there), and you would have EHC as a nice bridge between the more rural/family sitcoms and the more urban/adult sitcoms.

As for Everwood, the situation sucks, yes, but the show is not really drawing an audience. It's getting killed on Mondays right now. The CW is going to have major problems next season when a lot of these series, the tentpoles, (Smallville, Gilmore Girls and 7th Heaven) are over. I hope it can cultivate quite a few new hits next season or it will be out of business in a few years.

masterblooregard

Yeah that's a very good point. With 7th Heaven, Smallville and Gilmore Girls most likely ending next fall, it was pretty stupid of The CW to not introduce any new shows this season. They should have used those shows to introduce new ones. It's going to be pretty hard having a schedule of mostly new-series without any good lead-ins next fall.

Everwood's not drawing an audience because the WB killed it. It was a ratings hit until this year. And it's still a higher rated show then OTH or VM.

They were out getting drunk because their show was off the air for over 3 months. You keep a show off that long and then move it around the schedule like it was and it's bound to hurt it. Hell the show was still getting an audience on Thursday opposite CSI until it went on Hiatus.

I wonder what they got planned for next year as I think 'Girlfriends' will probably conclude at the end of this season. Well it looks like viewers "ran away" from The CW when Runaway started. It is DEAD, DEAD, DEAD!

"Deal or No Deal" put NBC on top at 8 p.m. with an 8.2/13. "The Class," 5.7/9, and "How I Met Your Mother," 6.1/9, finished second for CBS. "Prison Break," 5.3/8, was third for FOX. ABC came in fourth with "Wife Swap." The season premiere of "7th Heaven" on The CW drew a 2.9/5.

CBS took the lead among households at 9 p.m. with "Two and a Half Men," 10.1/15, and "Old Christine," 8.5/13. The premiere of "Heroes" (8.8/13), however, led among total viewers and was the night's top show among adults 18-49. A second "Wife Swap" posted a 5.3/8, moving ABC ahead of FOX and "Vanished." The premiere of "Runaway" on The CW struggled, managing only a 1.5/2.

Did I mention Dead? and what happened to 7th Heaven? It was the WB's highest-rated program... I hope it isn't The CW's or they are in BIG trouble. ohno:

It was down 25% from last year's premiere in the Overnights, 20% in Adults 18-49 and in total viewers.

Mediaweek:

Also premiering at 9 p.m. was CW drama Runaway, which limped out of the gate with a mere (and, of course, last-place) 1.8/ 3 in the overnights, 2.35 million viewers and a 0.7/ 2 among adults 18-49. Comparably, that declined from lead-in 7th Heaven by a considerable 51 percent in the overnights (3.7/ 6 to 1.8/ 3), 2.01 million viewers (4.36 to 2.35) and 56 percent among adults 18-49 (1.6/ 4 to 0.7/ 2). Would the CW have been better off leaving Everwood in the time period?

Pathetic and sad.

Buffyboy323

I'm pretty sure they uptee 7th for a full 22 episodes now. It's Veronica mars thast we have to worry about. She's only having 13 episodes, and if the ratings afren't good for them, The CW will cancel it, and forget about the back 9 episodes. :(

What makes you so sure? The premieres numbers were a big disappointment. Definitely one of the lowest ratings for an original episode. And for that, I cheer! I hope Dawn is sitting in her big, empty office regretting that stupid decision to can Everwood and keep 7th Heaven.

Brent88
09-27-2006, 12:20 PM
Another pretty disappointing night...

The first hour of "Dancing with the Stars" scored a 10.9/18 for ABC at 8 p.m. "NCIS," 8.7/14, put CBS in second among households, though FOX's "House," 8.6/14, had more total viewers. NBC re-aired Monday's "Heroes" premiere. The season premiere of "Gilmore Girls" on The CW drew a 3.1/5.

ABC held the lead at 9 p.m. with "Dancing," 13.5/20, and the premiere of the comedy "Help Me Help You," which shed quite a bit of its lead-in audience to finish at 8.0/12. CBS stayed in second with "The Unit," 7.7/12. "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" moved NBC into third with a 7.1/11, while FOX's "Standoff" came in fourth with a 5.0/8. The CW went with a repeat of the "Runaway" premiere.

WHY on earth did they rerun Runaway after those unacceptable numbers Monday Night? It lost over half the lead-in(which wasn't that great anyway). They averaged a 2.2 rating for the night. How sad.

Brent88
10-02-2006, 03:01 PM
The CW Sunday was a massive bomb last night! Really, really, really, REALLY bad!

The CW's new Sunday lineup trailed with a 1.6/3.

The CW had the season premieres of "Everybody Hates Chris," 1.6/3, and "All of Us," 1.4/2.

"Girlfriends" and "The Game" averaged 1.7/3 for The CW.

ohno:

Those are immediate cancellation numbers.

And if these ratings dont get any better, the merger will REALLY seem pointless.
GG, Smallville and Supernatural are the only shows on that network I care about. I honestly don't think the CW will last as long as UPN and The WB did. The whole network looks like a flop so far.

All I care about on The CW is Reba and Smallville, and Veronica Mars. Supernatural too I guess.

Maybe a lot sooner than that based on current ratings.

They better not put Reba on Sunday though, it'll bomb just like the others did last night. Maybe on Mondays after 7th Heaven?(since Runaway is probably dead).

Top Model really. Even Smallville was down from last year.

Well, Runaway only got a 1.4 last night(7th Heaven got a rather disappointing 2.8, 2.9 last week) and people who watched say there were a TON of promos for other shows, so it sounds like a lot of advertisers pulled out. This show will likely not see November Sweeps.

WTTO 21 from Birmingham(on Channel 8) and it seems to be a national CW(former WB) like I had when I lived in the Columbus, GA market on Cable only, Channel 60. It doesn't have a local identification(the TV listings show it with My Network TV programming, but that's not correct).

Variety:

"At the CW, "7th Heaven" and new drama "Runaway" may soon shift to Sunday nights. Two skeins would be replaced on Mondays by the net's current Sunday slate of laffers, including "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Girlfriends."

Move makes sense, given that CW predecessor UPN did well with comedy on Monday nights for the past few seasons. What's more, "7th Heaven" -- which had remained solid on Mondays when it aired on the WB -- has disappointed this season.

While it's unlikely "Heaven" or "Runaway" will do much better on Sundays, the CW stands a good shot of improving its Monday numbers by airing laffers on the night.

As For Veronica Mars:

In season-premiere news, The CW's Veronica Mars limped out of the gate with a disappointing (and, of course, last-place) 2.4/ 4 in the overnights, 3.27 million viewers and a 1.4/ 4 among adults 18-49 at 9 p.m. Although comparatively that was a vast improvement over year-ago failed occupant Sex, Love & Secrets (Overnights: 1.5/ 2; Viewers: 1.40 million; A18-49: 0.6/ 1 on Oct. 4, 2005), keep in mind three things:

1. Retention for Veronica Mars from lead-in Gilmore Girls (Overnights: #5, 4.0/ 6; Viewers: #5, 4.71 million; A18-49: #5, 2.0/ 6 at 8 p.m.) was just 60 percent in the overnights, 69 percent in total viewers and 70 percent among adults 18-49.

2. Sex, Love & Secrets on the year-ago evening led out of a repeat of America's Next Top Model.

3. Veronica Mars opened season two on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005 (out of America's Next Top Model) with a similarly disappointing 2.5/ 4 in the overnights, 3.29 million viewers and a 1.3/ 3 among adults 18-49.

To the countless Veronica Mars groupies reading this column: the ratings are not terrible. But they could, and should, be much better.

Ah well, let this be a lesson to Dawn Ostroff. Any series finale for a long-standing show is going to get high numbers. The series finale of Will & Grace got 18 million viewers, even though the season as a whole averaged 9 million. It's just common sense and you would think someone in her position would know that. 7th Heaven had a chance to leave with "dignity" (I don't wanna insult 7H fans but I can't stand the show) but now they're gonna be shoved to another night and given the axe. I remember Sarah got a lot of flack for deciding to leave Buffy but she knew it was the right to leave. Buffy wasn't the show it once was when it left UPN. A lot of 7th Heaven fans I know agree that the show hasn't been good in a while. I see the same thing happening with Gilmore Girls. This is the last year in their contracts and I don't think the actresses will consider it renewing it after such a sharp decline in the ratings and many fans hate the new direction. They might decide that the show has run its course and leave now before they really overstay their welcome. Lucky for The CW, Smallville is under contract for 1 more year so I don't see it going anywhere til 2008.

I agree. Let's not forget how much the WB whored the fact that this show was coming to a close. For God's sake, it was supposed to be a FRICKIN SERIES FINALE!!!! Of course the ratings were gonna be higher for that. It's not uncommon to have high ratings when a long running series ends. You're gonna have a total of life-long fans and supporters, people who have watched the show for part of its run and want to see how it will end, and people who probably wanted to see what all the hubbub was about concerning the show to begin with all watching it. This is probably IMO one of the most ridiculous programming moves I've ever seen.

Runaway is officially cancelled!

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Runaway" has run aground.

The CW drama has been axed after four airings. The series, which revolved around a family that goes on the lam after the father is wrongly accused of murder, bowed late last month to weak numbers in the Monday 9 p.m. slot behind "7th Heaven."

CW shifted "Heaven" and "Runaway" from Monday to Sunday last week, but the change didn't help "Runaway," which averaged 1.8 million viewers in its last airing. CW has pulled the show and will fill the Sunday 9 p.m. slot with repeats for the time being.

"Runaway" joins the CBS drama "Smith" as one of the first casualities of the new television season, and it has the distinction of being the first cancellation by the network born out of the fusion of UPN and WB Network. CW fielded only two new series in its first fall slate, "Runaway" and the comedy "The Game."

Veronica Mars Slips!!!

Veronica Mars slipped last night to a 1.9 rating. This is exactly Runaway's average and now its cancelled. It's an awful retention rate of Gilmore Girls (3.1) and as optimistic as I want to be, I'm really scared for my favorite show.

THE BAD
1) CW is producing more older-skewing series, and they may abandon this 'youthful' image since Smallville, 7th Heaven, and Gilmore Girls are all likely to be gone this time next year. Veronica Mars is reflective of the youthful image The CW may want to get rid of.
2) In its third season, a fourth one is expensive to produce.

THE GOOD
1) With 7th Heaven gone this year, and possibly Gilmore Girls and Smallville gone by the end of next year, a familiar face like Veronica Mars may be wanted around.
2) It's Dawn Ostroff's favorite kid.
3) Critical praise drawing attention to the fledgling CW

Just wanted to make sure we're all prepared to fight for one of TV's best shows. I can't imagine going through another '3 miracle seasons and you're out' Arrested Development, Roswell, American Dreams, etc.

7th Heaven is going to stay in the low three millions on Sundays. I don't predict growth in the timeslot. It was put there to live out the remainder of its life this season, then go quietly into the good night as it should have last year. I have nothing against shows airing for a long time if there's still some creativity left, but when you can't even afford the entirety of your cast anymore--it's time to hang it up. The switch was about saving the Monday comedies. The network is trying to build a future.

The suits are waiting to see if Veronica crashes and burns with the return of House tomorrow night and a rerun of Gilmore as the lead in. VM's crashed and burned the last two springs so I'm certain TPTB are reluctant to award the back nine too soon. They have to try out Hidden Palms midseason somewhere. It's either VM or One Tree Hill who are going to vacate for awhile. They sure as heck aren't going to yank Supernatural from the time slot of death on Thursdays at 9 to try a new series. Going up against Grey's and CSI is worse than facing Idol and much worse than facing LOST these days. When Supernatural was in VM's time slot, it averaged in the high 4 and low 5 millions. Its fans weren't pleased when it was moved to Thursdays.

The network has to be worried worried worried. It won't survive long term without viable new dramatic programming and Gilmore is GONE next year. What's going to be th 8 p.m. programming on "girl" night Tuesdays? Veronica, which was brilliant in season one and two, is so watered down that I don't even recognize it anymore. It's not so "critically praised" this season as it was. I've read several online articles recently about series that have lost their way and the like--Veronica is mentioned in several of them. I know fans who are very frustrated, myself included. It's not that VM is bad, but it isn't brilliant or noir eitiher. There have been serial rapes going on at the campus of a major university for a year. WHERE ARE THE POLICE AND MEDIA? Little freshman Veronica is the only person on the job? That's stretching credulity a weeeeee bit. Rape is a felony, you know.

IMO--the only show on the network experiencing a creative high is Supernatural, which is lucky to get a tagged on mention at the end of Smallville promos. Somewhere along the way, pretty pretty Jensen Ackles became one hell of an actor. His portrayal of Dean's descent after his father's death has been brilliant, and not just brilliant for a CW actor. Brilliant period. The difference between the two series is like night and day. Supernatural treats its audience like adults while Smallville is increasingly sillly and written for a tween audience. How it pulls higher ratings I'll never know. Just look for Princess Lana Lang--that's Smallville.

She was renewed for 13 episodes, now an additional 3. 16 Episodes so far.

I don't think Veronica Mars is in any danger for this season. I expect a full season order(22 episodes) before the holidays. They are struggling so I think they will keep something that has buzz and critical acclaim.

7th Heaven is in big trouble though. Last night, while almost every single show that aired on the Big 4 got a boost due to DST ending, it was flat. The bad news, it was flat at a 2.1/4!!! This show has collapsed. If The CW renews it again(without a dramatic improvement in the ratings), then they deserve to have all their shows be low-rated.

Because Alexis has said numerous times, and been quoted in print articles as saying, that she doesn't want to re-sign for an eighth season. That's why the Palladinos left. They wanted a 2 year guarantee from the new network to stay, and the network couldn't give it to them. Why would you want Gilmore Girls back anyway? I was a big fan once, but I will not watch Lorelai be with that horrible, whiny Christopher. Did you see their picture and the caption on the front of TV Guide a little bit ago about what Lorelai and Christopher decide to do when they take an impromptu trip to Paris? On a very romantic trip when they're talking about their.....future? Think about it. I'm sure it will come to you. I tried for 2 episodes this season; then I said, "I'm done." I can watch Friday Night Lights or read a book. The girls are shells of their former selves. They're dependent on men. I will not watch Lorelai with Christopher. I didn't watch 6 seasons for that. The "nuclear family unit" doesn't matter when your daughter's grown and daddy was barely there for 18 years.

There's a reason the show doesn't crack 5 and 6 million anymore. :(

Sorry if I seemed a bit rude in the above post about Gilmore. I just don't agree with you on that subject at all.....But I do agree with you %100 on everything you said about Veronica Mars. I have been a follower from the very beginning, and I feel like I'm watching a whole new show these days. The new characters aren't bad, but I sure do miss the old one's. And how they format the show now, just to get new viewers, is horrible. I will stick with it to the end, but I can't imagine what the ride is gonna be like if they don't bring the show back to it's former self.

The CW will try to shore up its Sunday-night schedule later this month with a show that, for some time last spring, looked like it wouldn't be back: "Reba."

The sitcom starring Reba McEntire will make its return to TV on Sunday, Nov. 19 with back-to-back episodes starting at 7 p.m. Beginning the following week, the network will air a repeat of the show at 7 p.m., followed by an original at 7:30 that will lead into "7th Heaven."

That's the second big change the new network has made to Sundays in the past month. The CW switched its Sunday and Monday lineups in early October, sending the long-running "7th Heaven" and the soon-to-be-cancelled "Runaway" to Sundays and moving its comedy block anchored by "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Girlfriends" to Mondays.

The move worked out well for the comedies, whose ratings have improved some since the change, and less so for "7th Heaven," which has seen its audience fall by about a million viewers. Adding "Reba" to the night will create a family-friendly block of programming from 7 to 9 p.m., although with the likes of "Sunday Night Football," "The Amazing Race" and "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" as competition, a big ratings bump doesn't seem likely.

"Reba" was The WB's highest-rated sitcom for virtually all of the five seasons it aired there. The CW, though, initially seemed to be leaning toward dropping the series, which would have meant paying an eight-figure kill fee to producer 20th Century Fox TV left the show. The network decided to renew it after all, holding it in reserve for after the fall launch.

The CW ran a repeat "Supernatural" at 7 p.m. last Sunday and will continue to do so for the next couple of weeks.

Here's the Ratings for the week of 10-23 to 10-29 for all The CW shows:

America's Next Top Model: 5.45mil
Smallville: 4.79mil
Gilmore Girls: 4.73mil
Friday Night Smackdown:4.48mil
One Tree Hill: 3.67mil
Supernatural: 3.65mil
Veronica Mars: 3.33mil
Everybody Hates Chris: 3.19mil
7th Heaven: 3.14mil
All Of Us: 2.93mil
Girlfriends: 2.81mil
The Game: 2.48mil

Veronica Mars is in the middle of the pack but still has not got a full season.
They have already picked up some shows for a full season that gets lower ratings. This does not make sense to me.

Veronica has a terrible habit of dropping sharply in the ratings the past 2 springs. The suits were waiting to see how she did when House came back, I suspect. She fell to 2.77 million last night and down from a 1.4 to a 1.2 18-49 demo. True, the Gilmore lead in was a rerun, but a show has to be able to stand on its own a little bit. They'll probably wait one more week to see how VM does against House with a new GG as a lead in. If it can't pop back up above 3 million....I think we may be seeing a shortened season. It'll only get worse in the spring when House has Idol as its lead in. House always seems to hover around 20 million in the spring, plus it steals the female demo away. If the demos at least pop back up next week, VM may be okay even if it doesn't hit 3 million. Maybe.

What works for Veronica is that she improves on UPN's numbers in the time slot last year at this time. What works against her is that she decreased from WB's numbers last year at this time. Supernatural drew in the 4 and 5 millions in the time slot, even against House. As long as the comedies are crowding the choice timeslots on Monday, Veronica is going to have to stay put on Tuesdays. It could be worse. VM could be in Supernatural's timeslot (I was so thrilled when it got moved to Thursdays  ) and go against CSI and Grey's Anatomy.

After Gilmore does the unthinkable on November 14, Veronica isn't going to have much of a lead in regardless. There's a reason Gilmore routinely earned above 5 million viewers last year but it doesn't now. Viewers are pissed about Lorelai and Chris.

The problem is that there really isn't a good timeslot for Veronica unless she could snag OTH's timeslot. Lost has been foundering and now it's gone for 2 months while Day Break airs. Criminal Minds is the only other strong contender in the timeslot--until American Idol premieres in January. That's going to take a slice out of One Tree Hill and it would kill Veronica, too, in that time slot. ANTM works too well Wednesdays at 8, so the network won't move that. Mondays are the only day the weak comedies can survive, so the network won't move them. Pity. I can see Veronica perhaps doing better Mondays at 8, or even Sundays at 8, but she's not a lead in show. Mondays at 9 will put her against Heroes and 24 come January. Fridays are reserved for Smackdown, which is performing fairly decently. You sure as the devil don't want to put Veronica at 9 on Thursdays against the heavily skewing female Grey's which--during a "down week" this week--scored "only" 20.65 million viewers. That's a down week for Grey's. Then you can get a detective fix on CSI which scored "only" 20.83 million; it also had an "off week" this week. ;) That Supernatural has survived in the timeslot is nothing short of a miracle. It was dealing with World Series, which obviously skews more male, too with its 14 to 15 million a game and it got even worse with NBC. What people don't realize is that Deal or No Deal is averaging 12 million. It's gone as high as 13 million. Scrubs moving into the timeslot is actually a break for SN. Scrubs (though a popular cult show) only averaged half of DND's total last season on Tuesdays and its demos are lower. Half its first shows will run when SN, GA, and CSI are in December reruns anyway. Oh, and the female skewing OC is in the timeslot, too. I don't think Veronica wants to be on Thursdays. The joke amongst us Supernatural fans is a bet.....when will Fox move the American Idol results show to Thursdays? How bad can the competition possibly get?

As long as the CW remains devoted to those comedies, Veronica has nowhere to go on the schedule. :( I think she'll get a full season, but I just can't see VM getting renewed. Not this time. Not when Idol comes to play and House's numbers swell up as its Tuesday lead out. Veronica was so critically acclaimed her first season, but that acclaim has been waning lately. There have been some storyline problems. I hate to see it. I really hate to see it since it's the only other show on CW that I like besides Supernatural, but there it is. It's a better show than GG at this point but sadly that doesn't matter.

Veronica's going to get pushed to the side, no doubt. Variety had the finals for Tuesday night. 2.69 million viewers for Veronica. 1.7/3 household. `1.2/3 18-49 demographic and those viewers didn't go to DWTS. DWTS's demo didn't rise in its last half hour. Its all House that's doing it to Veronica, and dissatisfaction with the new "viewer friendlier" storylines this season. Veronica is kind of bitchy this season. There's a fine line between funny and snarky and plain bitchy.

As much as I love VM, it doesn't deserve the post ANTM spot. Dawn did it last year and the show still failed. Veronica Mars is never going to be a commercial success and I think the fans are going to have to resign themselves to this. One Tree Hill is the first show to retain more than 50% of ANTM's audience and Dawn would be even more of a bonehead if she messed that up. Though, I do foresee the cw springing a leak on Wednesdays in January when Beauty and the Geek takes over ANTM's slot. The show was never a hit even for WB standards (it averaged what, 3.3 mil viewers, big whoop!) and I have serious doubts that it can anchor a night. Plus, the show is not at all compatible with One Tree Hill.

No way. I actually find Veronica herself to be a bit weak, and very whiny. I've been with the show since the Pilot episode, and have loved it- until now. I'll watch until the end, but i'm sorry, it's not as great as it once was. The CW changed the show. The "Viewer friendly" stuff is crap. They have 1 or 2 stories going, a year ago it had more mystery and open ended storylines than LOST. I can't believe what they're doing these days. And they mostly have scenes in the school, I guess to try and lore the Gilmore audience in, which isn't working. I WANT MY SHOW BACK DAMMIT! :(

I try not to think of American Idol if possible. It's everything that's wrong with television and music today. Other shows can't compete with it and it's pure garbage IMO. OTH goes against Idol directly on Wednesdays. That's not going to help its ratings any either. OTH has had it the easiest of VM, OTH, and Supernatural in terms of competition and it will have it a little easier as Daybreak goes downhill, until Idol premieres. SN can't catch a damn break at all. One Tree Hill even had the good fortune to have a World Series game rained out.

I agree that Veronica, while still enjoyable, isn't quite what it once was.

It did pretty well...

The NFL overrun and "60 Minutes" delivered a 14.2/23 for CBS at 7 p.m. ABC was a distant second with "America's Funniest Home Videos," 6.3/10. NBC's "Football Night in America," 5.3/9, came in third. With last night's ratings not only is Reba now the CW's highest rated sitcom (which isn't saying much, I know) but those numbers alone exceeded the ratings VM, Supernatural and OTH have gotten this season. To be fair, Reba doesn't have to face House, Lost, Grey's Anatomy, and CSI in competition. I'm not saying it didn't perform well and yes, Reba probably could pull in pretty decent numbers on Monday--but I'm not ready to crown her queen of the forest just yet. She doesn't even face any comedies Sundays at 7. I want to see the numbers for a few weeks first. Reba could probably pull in the 3 and 4 millions on Monday when the competition is light. She'd probably do well at 8 or 8:30 on Monday.

All season premieres usually pull higher numbers. 7th Heaven needs to frickin' die already. I saw that on Sunday for the first time since I can't remember. The "One Tree Hill" gang will continue to sleep with inappropriate people, and "Veronica Mars" will have more time to close in on the campus rapist now that The CW has ordered additional episodes of the two dramas.

The new network ordered eight more episodes of "Hill," while "Veronica" got seven more, making a total of 21 and 21 episodes, respectively, report trade sources. Each show was picked up for 13 episodes this past spring.

In other words, BOTH got Full Season orders.

From what I'm hearing, Tree Hill posted their best ratings this season last night. Can anyone confirm that?

galveston
11-30-2006, 05:52 PM
Yes, they did. I follow the ratings for a site for one of the CW shows. One Tree Hill posted a season low the night before Thanksgiving with 2.53 million viewers and a 1.0 demo in the 18-49 category, and last night posted a season high of 4.21 million viewers and a 1.8 in the 18-49 demo. Veronica Mars did the same thing; it had a season low of 2.57 million with a 1.1 demo the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, then scored a season high 3.44 million with a 1.6 demo this past Thursday. All those numbers are finals except for One Tree Hill's latter numbers. Those are fast nationals, so they are probably close.

One Tree Hill has no competition at the moment. Lost is off the air and Daybreak, its replacement, earned less than 5 million last night. Criminal Minds is the only strong show in the timeslot on network tv. It's got 16 million and change. NBC and Fox programs aren't earning s*** in the 9 p.m timeslot either. Gilmore Girls and America's Next Top Model, the lead ins for both shows, also posted season lows the week of Thanksgiving and season highs the past 2 nights. Bizarro world. Of course, Dancing With the Stars finally disappeared, too. ABC has crap for programming now and Jericho isn't exactly drawing huge numbers. SV and SPN both aired reruns Thanksgiving night and this week, too, with their last first run episodes before hiatus next Thursday.

I'm assuming American Idol will squelch all the enthusiasm in the spring, however. Don't count the renewals before they're hatched.

Sweet! Well, of course since it was thanksgiving holiday., there would be low ratings for most shows last week. Yeah, I heard Tree Hill almost beat Day Break, which is bad. I don't expect to see that on still in January.

As for Idol coming back, things gonna get bad. But if Tree Hill stays steady, it'll be fine. I would consider a schedule change for CW, but I don't think they'll do anything

Its good to see The CW having a great week, only if SV/SN were airing new episodes this week.. The CW would be having there best week ever.

VM and OTH increasing week 2 week is great news for The CW as a whole cause until this week.. ratings have been sup-par for every CW show except Top Model which has been terrific and Reba which has brought new life to the CW Sunday.

What scheduling changes could CW make? It's going to have to pay out a lot of makegoods to advertisers as it is. Apparently the suits made guarantees to advertisers of an average of 10 percent higher than each show earned on WB/UPN for ad rates/ratings--for an average number of weeks per cycle. Only Top Model has delivered. Everything else has been low, with the occasional bright spot episode like One Tree Hill had last night.

The comedies would die on any other night. They couldn't peform on Sundays. Girlfriends and the Game still can't. Veronica Mars isn't strong enough to anchor a night. They sure couldn't flip her to Sundays at 9 against Desperate Housewives or Thursdays, God forbid, against Grey's Anatomy. One Tree Hill can only thrive (by CW standards) on Wednesdays with no competition. Poor Supernatural is just withering on the vine Thursdays at 9; it's a much better show than people realize. Better than One Tree Hill, that's for sure. That it hasn't gone under 3 million is miraculous. Model has to remain Wednesdays at 8.

You want to talk to a cranky CW fan, talk to an SPN fan like myself and tell her how great and resurgent 7th Heaven is doing Sundays at 8. SPN fans were wanting that spot for their show baaaaaaaaaad. :crybaby: SPN will never show any growth against CSI, Grey's, the O.C. (which apparently shares a demo) and DOND on NBC, which was drawing 12 and 13 million. Whether Scrubs will hurt or help the situation (good demos, lousy overall numbers) remains to be seen. Point is, Supernatural won't get any better in its present timeslot and it's stuck because the CW can't throw anything else there. I'd love to see 7th Heaven try out Thursdays at 9 "for fun." :smash: I think with the proper promotion, SN could grow Sundays at 8. It won't happen, though. :crybaby: The CW's schedule seems mired in place--and Idol is coming. Sometimes I think they'll end up doing a housecleaning except for Top Model and Smallville. We'll see. At present, the CW sure isn't raking in the profits. :(

Tree Hill should go back behind Gilmore Girls when Idol comes around in my opinion. Veronica is going to be hard to place somewhere else. I still don't know where Hidden Palms will go

galveston
11-30-2006, 07:09 PM
Hidden Palms will have to go in place of either VM or OTH. I'm thinking they'll try it after Top Model, since it's a much better lead in than Gilmore Girls, but then you run smack into Idol. Does Idol's Wednesday show air in the 8 or 9 o'clock hour? Putting it after GG, though, will run smack into an Idol fueled House lead out, or against the "expanded Idol that seems to happen every other week. They sure can't premiere it on Thursdays, and Mondays would put it up against 24 and Heroes.

That's the problem. Too many people don't know that CW even exists if they weren't a fan of a WB or UPN show. I can't see Hidden Palms hitting it big. All the UPN and WB midseason shows last spring crashed and burned. Frankly, HP to me sounds like tripe compared to VM. Just more rich teen angst.

I think Idol is at the 8 pm hour, so it would go against ANTM. Wait? Isn't ANTM off in the spring? Beauty and the Geek is in that spot I think? Or that is what I remember reading I believe. I think Tree Hill should move to VM spot, Hidden Palm talk Tree Hill spot, and VM move at the 8 pm on Sunday pushin 7th heaven to the 9 on Sunday

CW Monday is up, Veronica Mars and OTH reached season highs.. So Mon-Wed are doing good .. that can mean only good things for Supernatural along with Smallville, the best night of television which has been conisitent all season will get a bump in viewership. Even if it doesn't get a bump in viewers, its performance will still be good.

Unless Jo appears in the next episode, Supernatural will be fine.. (its holding steady for The CW on Thursday along with Smallville) and since 9 episodes have aired thus far that leaves 13 for the new year..

Ahhhhh, Jo. I can understand the desire to expand the show's universe with a few characters, but what a classic misfire her character was. I don't know what the director was thinking having her do the flirty, bratty, Mary Sue routine in "No Exit," but it didn't work. The idea of a very gradual romance with Dean's character is a good one, but it needs to be with someone who looks and acts like she's at least graduated from high school. I can see Dean jumping into bed with Jo's mother easier than seeing him want to baby sit Jo.

I plan on watching these 3 mis-season shows. I hope they turn out to be good. The CW's first Fall Season ever was nothing to brag about.

Aliens In America (The premise sounds funny)

Gossip Girl (I'm curious if Josh Shwartz can do anything else besides Primetime soaps/Teen shows. The OC, now this...)

Hidden Palms (Sounds good. The "Scream" movies are at the top of my most classic cheesy movies list. Classic nonetheless. And god knows I was addicted to "The Creek.")

American Idol does it again.. destroys the competition but the ones were affected were ABC Knights of Prosperity/In Case of Emergency AND..

One Tree Hill, which took a massive hit. Last night episode recevied a 1.6/2, 2.17 million and a 1.0 in the demo.. :eek2: dang Idol.

yea, I expected Idol to destroy everything in its path.. It was expected, but I was hoping for OTH to get closer to 3 million, maybe 2.7 mil-2.8mil. Hopefully, itll do better next week.

galveston
01-18-2007, 06:06 PM
I'm not surprised that OTH did so poorly. It shares too much of a demographic with Idol. The teens who watch OTH actually care who "wins" the fixed contest that is Idol. OTH has had it pretty easy in its timeslot until now, especially after Lost went off the air and Daybreak bombed so hard that it was only drawing 4 million viewers and demos in the ones. Criminal Minds skews older. With AI, reality sets in. C'est la vie. Until the CW decides to create older skewing shows, or goes with more genre like Supernatural, Idol is going to be the same problem every year.

Brent88
01-18-2007, 08:02 PM
The CW should have went with a repeat last night instead of a new episode. In a few weeks, Idol will be lower(yes still massive, but not getting a 31 share). They should have waited.

galveston
01-18-2007, 08:09 PM
Absolutely they should have waited. I was very surprised to hear they went with a first run episode against Idol's premiere. The suits must want to get rid of OTH. I stand by my opinion that this network needs older skewing shows or it won't be able to stay in business long term. Only NCIS and Criminal Minds on CBS have been able to stand up to Idol's presure, because they skew more between 30-60 than 18-49.

What I'm (morbidly) interested in seeing is if all the Christopher crap on Gilmore Girls has finally alienated its fans to the point that they won't be so loyal in the face of Idol anymore. Next week they go head to head before the SOTU address. I remember SN having to face two hour and a half long Idols last season when it still aired Tuesdays at 9 and feeling grateful that it scored 4.25 and 3.87 million those nights. CW needs older skewing, and it needs more genre programming. Genre fans, and fans over 30 tend to be much more loyal to their favorite programs in the face of Idol. There's plenty of 30-34 year olds in the 18-34 demo, Dawn. Advertisers still value the 18-49 demo, too. Plenty of shows to be written for the slightly older viewer.

Oh it's OVER. It airs on February 18th, incredibly early.

The ratings were pretty good though. It was getting pretty old, but I still don't get why they'd cancel it(the only reason it was brought back in the first place was to burnoff 13 episodes to avoid a huge fine from Fox).
