He said black men can memorize lyrics to rap songs and get women pregnant but they don't wanna take care of their responsibilities LOL. I agree with that.

People always get upset with what Bill has to say, but what he says is the truth. Jackson and Sharpton won't tell the truth, so someone like Bill has to step to the plate.

He's right again and I'm sure there are some people who don't like what he said. There is a lack of a value system and people simply don't have any priorities other than ones that apply to themselves and even those are trivial things. Black men that have children generally don't take the initiative to take care of their kids or be careful not to get women pregnant. All you have to do is turn on Judge Hatchett or Maury to see all the cases where they have paternity test and stories of irresponsibilty, most of the people involved are black. But even so, I think people of all races can benefit from listening from him, because I think it's becoming a problem for all.

Spelman is a all black college in Atlanta, Georgia for those who've never heard of the school. I'm sure he pissed off some people because of what he said but it's the truth. Most black men are in prison or dead. Recently legendary underground rapper MC Breed was sentenced to a year in prison because he hasn't paid child support payments. He told the judge he was broke LOL. What the hell is he doing broke? He's been rapping since 1988 hahahahahahahahahaha. Last album he recorded was 5 years ago. What has he been doing with his money? He sure can make babies though and then don't take care of them LOL.

I would say that SOME Black men don't take care of their responsibilities just like SOME white men don't and SOME Hispanic men don't. But there are a lot of Black men out there who are productive citizens and who are responsible and take care of their families. Those remarks that he made is why some white people think negatively forwards black men.

Timing is everything, and I don't think that, that was the time or place for Cosby to make those remarks.

I wish some of ya'll would get off Bill's back. There's nothing wrong with him dissing black men at a college graduation. Ignorant black men need to be dissed and i agree with everything Bill said. What he said at the college graduation will maybe make black men change their ways and realize that education and intelligence is important so they can take care of themselves.

Last time I checked this isn't English 101. I could understand if the man resorted to saying something like, "Yo son, ya'll niccas need stop hatin on Cosby" or something to that effect. Then I could understand the justification for calling him an "ignorant black man".

I agree with Mr. Cosby 110%. No one wants to hear it but too bad. Black men are trifling. A lot of their sorry a$$es see all that bling and the hoes in the videos and think they can just drop out of school and become a rapper at the snap of their fingers. Meanwhile since they don't have the talent, resources or the connections to get what they want, they resort to criminal means. The sad thing is, the hoes are extras, the bling is rented by the record companies and most of the rappers lyrics are complete and utter B.S. Some of it may be the truth but remember people, it's called, "the entertainment business" Get it? Entertainment.

But Mr. Cosby's speech just doesn't apply to African-Americans you know. It applies to every other minority in this country as well. Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, etc. We all have to step up to the plate and take responsibility for our actions. Sure there's still racism. Absolutely. But you can't blame the white man for everything. If 30 or 40 years ago, someone came out and said one day an African American female would be a billionare, they would be laughed at.

I'm mixed about the speech being delivered at a graduation ceremony though. I think that the graduates should hear it because it applies to their future and believe it or not, colllege graduates can go down the wrong path you know. No one is immune. But on the other hand it does damper the mood. Especially after these graduates have worked so hard to get their degrees.

I so agree with you. Bill and Kanye West need to learn TACT. There is a time and place for everything. It's not like Bill was not ever going to get a chance to speak in public. It's not like it was the first time he ever said anything like this either.
Graduation is certainly no place for a HARD CORE LESSON on how not to be a "typical black man" which is what Bill was pretty much saying.

Black men are trifling? I really don't think that's the messege Bill Cosby was trying to get at. Because last time I check BILL COSBY IS A BLACK MAN. I think his messege was that alot of Black men who could be working to uplift their communities are instead working overtime to bring it down even further, and that black women had to step up their own role and stop waiting for Black men to do it all by themselves. Nobody likes to be generalized. Of course the media is not going to run a story about a black man taking care of his family by working 60 hours a week at his job. Have you ever seen a story on the news about a black man who is out in the community trying to tudor young black men? Of course not. That doesn't mean they don't exist, but the media would much rather focus on the carjackers and deadbeat daddies.
But I've been involved in many organizations that were overflowing with Black men doing their best make a difference in their community, and my own father has worked all of his life to uplift his people.
