View Full Version : Game Show Marathon to air on CBS on 5/31
Julius 05-17-2006, 03:47 PM Friday, May 5, 2006GAMESHOW MARATHON, hosted by Emmy Award-nominee Ricki Lake ("The Ricki Lake Show") and based on the hit U.K. game show "Ant & Dec's Gameshow Marathon," will be broadcast twice weekly for two weeks beginning Wednesday, May 31 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) and Thursday, June 1 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) and the following week Wednesday (6/7) and Thursday (6/8) before settling in to its weekly regularly scheduled Thursday (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) time period on June 15 Only on CBS.
GAMESHOW MARATHON features six celebrity contestants competing in a weekly elimination-style tournament in which they play different classic game shows each episode including "The Price Is Right," "Let's Make a Deal," "Beat the Clock," "Press Your Luck," "Card Sharks," "Match Game" and "Family Feud." Celebrities participating include Tim Meadows ("Saturday Night Live"), Leslie Nielsen ("Airplane"), Kathy Najimy ("Sister Act"), Lance Bass (N Sync), Paige Davis ("Trading Spaces") and Brande Roderick ("Baywatch"). A champion will be crowned at the end of the competition. In addition, the program will include a viewer participation element whereby they will have a chance to win the celebrity's grand prize each episode through a wireless (text message) trivia game that enters viewers into a sweepstakes. GAMESHOW MARATHON is produced by FremantleMedia North America and Granada Entertainment USA. Cecile Frot-Cruz, Paul Jackson and Stuart Krasnow are executive producers. I'm so glad to see a woman hosting these classic game shows.

howilu 05-28-2006, 02:26 AM Hopefully Gameshow Marathon will spark a resurgence in the genre, which has been somewhat dormant until the success of Deal or No Deal.
dawsongirl 05-28-2006, 03:12 AM I'll probably check this out, mainly cuz I'm curious to see how they do MG and FF. Hope Ricki Lake is at least a GOOD host.
friendsfan77 05-29-2006, 11:57 AM I personally am interested the most in TPIR and Card Sharks myself. I hope it does well.
Brent88 05-29-2006, 12:23 PM I'm looking forward to this. :D
BlueMolly2006 05-29-2006, 12:35 PM Can't wait to see this. I LOVE game shows.
Pavan 05-31-2006, 04:46 PM I'll tune in. Especially for Price is Right and FF.
Scoobiedoo30 05-31-2006, 05:30 PM I am going to watch Game Show Marathron but in another Time Slot
Brent88 06-01-2006, 01:40 AM It was OK. Maybe it was just weird because it was The Price is Right without Bob. I dunno. I'll watch it tomorrow and keep an open mind. It has potential though.
bad_boy 06-01-2006, 12:35 PM I liked it. I think this will be a good show.

:yeahthat
friendsfan77 06-01-2006, 08:43 PM It wasnt bad. Though it did seem awkward that they used the half-hour format, AND used the wheel. The wheel, though being a classic symbol of TPIR, seemed useless that night.
One celebrity who I really thought was truly terrible was the one who played Race Game, I think it was Brande Roderick. Putting the $7,000 tag for the sofa, taking her sweet time? There's only 45 seconds. What was she thinking? Then thinking she'd go to Australia on a BOAT? lol, she didnt even know she won the showcase until Ricki said something. And come on Kathy Najimy, $81,000 for two mustangs?! I did love Lance Bass' shirt.
Though on TPIR last night, that audience was a tad too loud. Ricki had to shout over them a number of times.
When I first saw Ricki walk out onstage, I had that same feeling that I did when I first saw Dennis James do the same thing. I had never seen someone else host a modern-day 1972+ version of TPIR before, except for Doug Davidson, and I remember being 8 and not liking that version. But she wasnt that bad. And like I said, she did have to kind of shout over the audience at times, making her seem loud. She was ok. Again, not bad at all for a first timer. And with TPIR, that's tough shoes to fill.
That intro with all the old clips narrated by Rich was awesome though!

Who the hell was that actress? who played the race game??? that's the kinda lady that puts the stereotype of DUMB BLONDE into people's heads with her dumb antics...she made Chrissy Snow look intelligient.
The wheel, i love, but the purpose I guess was merely to decide which two go to the showcase.
I too was flabbergasted at that price Kathy gave. You would think an actress of all people, would know what two cars cost?????

Brande Roderick was a Playboy "model" I think. I think all she can do is stand and look "pretty." Ugh.
I've only seen LMAD last night and it was alright I guess. Purposely asking the audience what to do got annoying though. Monty never did that did he?

NOpe. Monty just kept asking the contestant what they wanted. And who is that other lady Paige? I only know Lance and the black guy and of course Leslie.

Paige Davis used to host "Trading Spaces." I think she acts too.
I love the idea behind "Game Show Marathon". Like many of you, I would love to see more game shows on the networks, having grown up with most of the shows that are featured here. I hope CBS runs a few more "Marathons" next year on a more regular basis if some of their new fall shows fail. Before then, there are a couple of changes I'd like to see. The first would be a new host. I absolutely can't stand Ricki Lake. Does she have to scream so much, even when the audience is quiet? On her own daytime show, I can understand. On here, she sounds like Celine Dion on crack. That's something I woudn't wish on my worst enemy. My choice to host would be Betty White. She's been on nearly every game show in the history of television, and she could probably recite their rules in her sleep. She was also married to one of the greatest hosts ever, the late Allen Ludden of "Password".
The second change I would make would to have regular people play the games instead of celebrities, saving the stars for games like "Match Game" where they can help the contestants in winning money and prizes.
I also wonder how this series would do if it was placed directly against "Deal Or No Deal" every week. Which of the two would you watch? Would you watch one and tape the other? At first, I'd probably alternate between the two until I made up my mind which one I liked better, or until one of them gets cancelled, whichever comes first.
Mister Ed 06-08-2006, 10:13 PM I love this show! It's the best show this season, IMO. I hope a second season is in the works. :D
wiseguy182 06-10-2006, 03:31 AM I had been looking forward to the Press Your Luck episode of Gameshow Marathon. It was nice to see clips of some of the best moments/players like Jim Hess, Michael Larsen and my personal favorite: the Lori versus Cathy spin battle!
TV Knowledge Fan 06-19-2006, 08:48 PM ...was one of the supporting cast of the later seasons of "BAYWATCH" (which ALSO happens to be owned by Fremantle, Ltd., who put this package together).
Ricki Lake is a good host, but there are some formats in this "Marathon" she should NOT have attempted to host: "LET'S MAKE A DEAL" is NOT the same without Monty Hall. "BEAT THE CLOCK" had Bud Collyer's "traffic cop" charisma, which she doesn't have. The enthusiasm, yes.
More to come.....
DLevine2 06-22-2006, 05:38 PM I can't wait to watch Betty White on Match Game on Game Show Marathon tonight. Is anyone going to watch Betty on Match Game on Game Show Marathon on CBS tonight? I'm going to watch it.:) ;)
Brent88 06-22-2006, 09:09 PM It was pretty good, but it had a lot of filler in the first 20 minutes that drug the show down.
dawsongirl 06-23-2006, 04:42 AM OMG...whose bright idea was it to hire Adrianne Curry to be on the panel? She made Louisa Moritz look like a Rhodes Scholar.
Family Feud one next week! That's the one I'm really looking forward to seeing.
GoldenGirlsFan92 06-23-2006, 09:59 PM I thought "Match Game" episode was great. Plus Betty White on it was good too. Also it's very good to see Ricki Lake on TV again. The Family Feud Episode looks good too.
DLevine2 06-25-2006, 04:12 PM Match Game with Betty White on GSM was pretty good which I thought. I enjoyed it.
TV Knowledge Fan 06-26-2006, 01:37 PM ....Betty White is a game show veteran...ESPECIALLY on "MATCH GAME"!! She knows where the "laughs" and reactions should go, and MAKE them work! Bruce Vilanch is also an expert on "milking" the most out of funny answers, and he was darn good as well.
As for "FAMILY FEUD", very few people have matched Richard Dawson in "guiding" the show....perhaps Ricki has the "touch", I don't know. I'll have to wait until I see it......
dawsongirl 07-04-2006, 11:27 PM Ricki Lake should not have hosted MG or FF. Terrible. I should have started a count on how many times she asked the questions over and over and over and over again. No FF host has EVER asked every single person the question every single time they came to them for an answer. :wallbang It became hard to watch.
