View Full Version : Are you able to eat at a Restaurant on your LUNCH BREAK?
TVFactFan 05-16-2006, 12:28 PM I was just invited to eat lunch at a restarunt but I declined because I just can;t see myself in a restarunt setting and I'm on a time clock-lol First I have to wait for the food and then chew fast because I have to be back at the office. I don;t think restarunts are for Lunch breaks, AFTER work is much better. Who agrees?

I agree. If i'm gonna go to a restaurant, I want to be able to relax and enjoy my meal. I prefer going after work or sometime during the weekend.
TVFactFan 05-16-2006, 12:40 PM I agree. If i'm gonna go to a restaurant, I want to be able to relax and enjoy my meal. I prefer going after work or sometime during the weekend.
Exactly, I would get confused and after the meal i would be ready to go home and then come to realize-"I have to go back to work?"-lol
MsOrange 05-16-2006, 05:06 PM hell yes, I do it all the time, espeically when it's on the company's tab, like buisness lunches and stuff. But I don't have a set lunch time, i'm salary, so the norm is an hour, but most days I either run and get something through the drive through and eat at my desk, bring something from home, or meet my husband. It's pretty lax around here as long as you get your job done.
Now if you're taking 2 and 3 hour breaks every day, then they might say something.
~LadyJess~ 05-16-2006, 05:07 PM Ok I've only worked one shift in my entire life where I got a lunch break. I had an hour and managed to have lunch with my friend at Red Robin and get back to work in plenty of time. It was nice but I wouldn't make a habit of it.
AllIWantIsYourClutch 05-16-2006, 05:28 PM I eat at the mall food court or at Panera...I have a half hour. Though I don't get many breaks nowadays, since I work like 4 hours at a time.
Brieannas21 05-16-2006, 06:07 PM Yes I'm able to go to a resturant and eat lunch. I tend to work thru my lunch hour sometimes or I'll take the time to call my husband and check email
swedeace 05-16-2006, 07:16 PM I get an hour for lunch. I have actually eaten at restaurants if they are nearby my workplace. So, yes, I have done it.
dawsongirl 05-17-2006, 01:59 AM My break consists of my entire shift.
All I can do is eat at my desk. I can't leave, but it's just 5 hours.
When I had an hour lunch break, I usually did fast food in my car.
Yooch 05-18-2006, 12:14 AM Hardly ever; we get a half hour for lunch--by the time we'd drive to a restaurant and order (fast food included) we wouldn't have time to enjoy it. That's why my buddies and I make sure we go out for breakfast every Friday before work very early so we don't have to eat in a rush.
retrochick9 05-18-2006, 11:28 AM Back when I had an hour, I would go to a restaurant sometimes. If it was a really laid-back kinda day or something or I was STARVING, but I agree that it's not really enjoyable when you have to keep looking at your watch.

It's the same where I work. I'm on salary as well, so I've eaten at resturants during my lunch break, or I've picked up something and eaten it at my desk or I might bring my lunch. It doesn't matter as long as I get my job done.
LuLu Rogers 05-18-2006, 01:12 PM I'm currently unemployed and looking for a job, LOL, but at my last job I got an hour for lunch and I usually got fast food and brought it back to work. I met my mom at a restaurant once while I was working there and I hated it because I was constantly looking at my watch and worrying about getting back on time.
Chad Michael Murray 05-18-2006, 01:13 PM Well, depending on who was going to eat with me, there's always a way to make time to go out for lunch! ;)
SBTB Geek 05-18-2006, 01:38 PM I actually do this once in a while, but then again, I get a 45-1hr lunch. I just did this last Sunday (mother's day)... I have a co-worker who's only son moved out of state not too long ago and I noticed she was depressed. So I decided to treat her for lunch at a nice restaurant not too far from our workplace.
You should have seen her, this made her so happy.
LOL, sorry for going a little off topic.

Yeah going to a restarunt on lunch would be more suited for a friday
No, we only get two 15-minute breaks on our shift, so its get stuff out of
the machines in the break room or bring something from home. We do have
a microwave but theres usually a line of people at it.
Number 9 Dream 03-07-2007, 08:19 PM Nah, we don't even get breaks at the place I work  We have to eat as we work (I work in a grocery store/deli, so the food is easily accessible). We can take a few minutes to sit if we want, but we have to get up if a customer is waiting to be served. It sucks.
However, I have gone to restaurants with friends when I had an hour break at school. Sometimes my classes were spaced apart, so a few friends and I would go to lunch at Pizza Hut or Applebees (there are quite a few restaurants and fast food places along the road where my school is). We've always gotten back in time :)

I get 30 minutes for luch...That's def not a lot time for fine dining.
catlover79 03-07-2007, 08:29 PM I wish! I, too, only get half an hour for lunch. Oh well. :)
dawsongirl 03-07-2007, 11:40 PM Well, new job since last post, and now I get 30 mins. Although most of us are able to easily make that a tad longer. But I never leave work.
I get 30 minutes for lunch and I have never gone to a restaurant to eat. The grocery store I cashier at has a great deli. They have the best mashed potatoes and gravy.
PZelda 03-08-2007, 01:35 AM I get 1hr 15min for lunch. Occasionally, I'll go to a restaurant across town, have lunch there and be able to make it back to school with time to spare before my next class. :)
cmcb06 03-08-2007, 03:27 AM I get 30 minnutes for lunch, i usually just go to the local mcdonald's or something and get one of their salads and a water. Inexpensive and good.
Yooch 03-08-2007, 07:05 PM I wish I could; we only get a half hour for lunch and there just wouldn't be enough time.
tdf4077 03-08-2007, 09:10 PM Nope. As a teacher, half the days, I have to monitor the lunch room. Plus, with only 30 mins, and there not being very many restaurants near our school, I really wouldn't have time.
InspectorExstead 03-09-2007, 02:32 AM there's a chipotle, subway, and jerry's deli in the same shopping center as my work. walk fast...eat and relax for a bit...and still have time to clock in on time. all within thirty mins. once you get used to it, it goes better. but i would never do a sit down restaurant...getting the food alone during lunchtime would take thirty minutes. lol.
