Well, when my dad was alive I would refer to him sometimes as grandpa, but not all the time. Good question.

It's the same as the man and woman calling themselves Dad and Mom after their child is born.

Ah, here we go again! Probably for the same reason that everyone on their
respective series called Bee Taylor "Aunt Bee," Granny Moses "Granny," Amos McCoy "Grampa," etc., etc. That's television for you.

I just assume since they had Eddie, they referred to him as grandpa.
