View Full Version : Was Jan rude to her aunt Jenny?
jenjen 05-13-2006, 04:56 PM It would have never occured to me to snub my aunt no matter how unattractive I thought she was.
When she discovered there was more to her than looks, it was time for aunt Jenny to go! (Never to be seen again!!!)
Rich3 05-13-2006, 10:40 PM The ironic thing is that in her younger days Imogene Coca was better looking than any of the Brady women.
Yes. She did seem rude in that episode. But it wasn't just Jan. I think even the mother said something like, "Well, you're not necessarily going to look like her when you grow up."
For crying out loud, Carol! Show some tact.

LOL, yeah, Carol didn't handle it much better than Jan did...
Would it have even been POSSIBLE for anyone at that time to know as many celebrities as Aunt Jenny did, without being a celebrity yourself? Jeez, the name dropping...
I've seen a number of pictures of Coca in her younger days, but I've never seen one in which she even comes close to looking as good as the Brady women... that's not to say that they aren't out there, but in the ones I've seen, she doesn't even remotely approach them in the looks department.
(I did a google seach and check out the 'images').

gidgetgrape 05-15-2006, 12:42 AM I don't like this episode. I can't imagine telling someone (especially a relative who traveled a great distance to visit) that my daughter think she's ugly and is afraid she's going to grow up to look like her.

I agree, that always bugged the hell out me...how shallow can you be!

Yeah, I agree too. That was just not a good episode.
I have never seen any pictures of Imogene when she was a little girl so, this episode kinda doesn't make that much sense anway..
gidgetgrape 05-15-2006, 09:07 AM It's also strange because a couple episodes later in "Sergeant Emma" the Bradys don't want to offend Alice's cousin by telling her they don't like the way she's running the house. So, it's okay to offend your Aunt but not your maid and her relatives? What!
jenjen 05-15-2006, 02:45 PM When I saw this as a child the only thing I got out of it is...wow ugly people can be cool too!! Puhleeze!
TV Guy 05-15-2006, 08:16 PM Normally, I would agree that Jan, Carol, and Mike were rude to Aunt Jenny. But since she was so obnoxious with all her self-important name dropping, I thought her balloon needed deflating, and what better way than to tell her that the family thought she was an ugmo?
Tootie 05-15-2006, 09:45 PM Did Carol actualy talk to Aunt Jenny about her looks?

Tweety 05-15-2006, 11:10 PM Did Carol actualy talk to Aunt Jenny about her looks?
As I recall, Carol kind of hemmed and hawed about what was bugging Jan, and Jenny kind of figured it out, without Carol having to actually say it... Carol did not come right out and say to Jenny's face that she wasn't an attractive woman.

LOL, that's true...
I guess that Mike and Carol felt SO guilty about being so rude to Aunt Jenny that they went out of their way NOT to offend "Cousin Emma".
Mike: If she blows that bugle one more time, I'm gonna...
Carol: Now Mike, remember, we promised after Jenny left that we'd try out best not to offend anyone any more, especially family...
Mike: Yeah, but Emma's not OUR family, she's ALICE'S family!
Carol: Now, Mike...
Mike: Well,ok...c'mere you little...
Carol: Oh, yeah, baby..
Door opens, Emma enters:
Emma: Up and at 'em folks!!
Mike: What do you think I'm TRYING to do...?

This is one episode where Robert Reed should have insisted the story be changed or something.
