Some callers claim ‘Idol’ votes were misdirected
Frustrated Daughtry fans say they were greeted with message for McPhee

"American Idol" sent rocker Chris Daughtry home Wednesday night, but Daughtry's fans aren't quite ready to let him go. At least one online petition, with more than 16,000 names attached, is calling for a recount of the "American Idol" votes.

MSNBC.com has received numerous e-mails and bulletin board posts claiming that voters who dialed the first of Daughtry's two phone numbers were greeted by a recorded message from "Idol" singer Katharine McPhee, thanking the caller for voting for her. According to Wednesday night's show, McPhee received the second-lowest number of votes, after Daughtry. The Associated Press cited Tracey Adams, a family friend of Daughtry's, saying that fans from his North Carolina hometown were among those who heard another contestant's voice when calling for Daughtry.

One fan who wrote to MSNBC.com said: "They had another voting mess-up. When I called to vote for Chris, Katharine says Thanks for voting for me. I thought I dialed the wrong number, so I tried again to hear Katharine, again. People were trying to vote for Chris...not Katharine! That's why Chris went home......GRRRR...REDO please!”

well as a chris fan i'm not sure if i believe this. but if it's true, he totally deserves a re-vote. they had that whole re-vote last year for a minor issue...

I really hope he gets a re-vote. At first when Ryan said he was going home, I really thought something must have happened with the voting or something. He didn't deserve to go home. :(

Not enough evidence to prove that happened and it depends on how many got their wrong line, if it wasn't widespread then it's probably wouldn't change anything.

And if fans were claiming his 1st number had Kats message, maybe they shouldve switched to his 2nd number. Durr. And not for nothing, but if this is true, I doubt it had anything to do with her votes.. it was probably just a message mix up. That was his number, so if you called in that number, it would still be tallied under his name.

As much as I believe that Chris was robbed on Wednesday night, I really don't want a recount. What's done is done. Let America see what they have done to itself. :snob:

Even if they have a recount and ask Chris to come back I think he should tell them thanks, but no thanks and get a recording deal on his own!! He is that darn good!!

She'll be the one most likely to go cuz she was in the bottom two with him last week.
