...to me anyway. I know Grady tried hard to fill the void, and he's great with Fred, but I hate the show without Fred.

Personally, I liked Grady. I really didn't think the show missed much for a brief time without him. Over the long haul though, the show would've died.

I agree I didn't like the show without Fred. The best episode that Grady did was when he was going weed in the garden. All the other episodes he was just annoying to me.

I liked "Lamont Goes Karate" "Fred's Treasure Garden" and "A Little Extra Security", but the rest of the eps without Fred weren't very good. (IMO)

I didn't really mind because Fred wasn't gone to long. I've always been a big Grady fan anyway.

Grady filled in for Fred pretty well.

I liked Grady a great deal, and I loved him when he appeared with Fred. I guess I only like the show when Fred's on. I'm the same way with Archie on All In The Family...James on Good Times. I don't enjoy shows without the main characters.

I will agree with you about All In The Family. The episodes Archie weren't on were pretty bad. I can't believe they considered killing him off.

That's why I didn't watch those 9 eps when I bought the DVD

I did like the episode about Grady's cousin who took over the house. Grady and Lamont had to figure a way to get rid of her.

I thought it was nice to have a break from Fred. He was a funny character, but he did the same thing in every episode. With Grady on it brought a new life to the Sanford house.

quote: "I'm gonna fix you all a nice big breakfast!" LOL That was a good Grady episode, and the other where the weed was growing in the yard. The worse Grady episode was when that woman wanted to marry Lamont, and he was using Grady as an excuse to not marry her. After watching that crappy episode, it was time to bring back Fred.

I thought everyone would think the Grady ep that was watchable was when Lamont wanted to have female company

i know when u think about it it is a breath of fresh air when u think of how bad Lamont always treated Fred his Father all them years.now he got Grady there for while who does not take any crap from Lamont dont even let him have female company at his own house.abouttime he got what coming to him.

--if NBC had given in earlier and paid Redd Foxx what he insisted he deserved, those episodes featuring Grady would have ended sooner.

I didn't mind Grady's filling in. I like the one about the Social Security checks and the pot garden. Both were funny. I rmember on more than one episode, they mentioned Fred would soon be returning.

My question is why does 35 year old Lamont need Grady to stay with him while Fred is "away in ST Louis"?

He was suppose to be there to help Lamont with the business and to take care of the house.

Thats true. I didn't see a problem with that. It was when he got involved with Lamonts personal life that was a little strange.

Overall I liked Grady and thought he was a good replacement for awhile but I'm glad Fred came back.

He really was only supposed to be there to help with the business, not a baby sitter.

Yeah I thought Grady was way out of line when it came to Lamonts life. But Lamont was out of line when it came to Grady's life also.

I think the writers were trying to do the same thing between them that they did with Fred and Lamont and it didn't work.

it is not too bad to deal with NOW when sanford is on every day in reruns--- u can pass over the "GRADYS" in a few days

BUT back in the 1970s, it was OVER 2 months of new episodes airing WITHOUT REDD FOXX---- now that was unbearable!!!!

OH I know, I'm just saying that being Partners in the junk business should have been the only reason for Grady to be there instead of playing the Daddy Role

Grady was much more believable and a better actor than Bubba. Bubba always sounded like he was reading a script. Of course no one could take the place of Fred G. Sanford, but I feel Grady held his own. Don't forget, that third season was the highest rated Sanford and Son season of all. So he must have done something right.

Well to me he didn't do anything right because I didn't watch the GRADY eps on the DVD-lol

Come on now, you gotta at least watch the wild parsley episode. "I think I'm getting the Munchkins!"

Bubba was the better actor. He was better if you just let him speak his lines rather than feeding off of someone. If you seen episode, "Committe Man" Bubba did a fine job at speaking in public. Much so better than Grady.
